Just to get to know what you people think.

Inspired by the belgian military, as my very own finnish military
poll, here is the swedish military. Some fast facts about the swedish
military today. After several hard defence cuts, the swedish army
will after mobilization be less than 200.000 men strong, of which the
Homeguard will form the majority. The Homeguard doesnīt have
any heavy weapons as mortars or so forth.

Note that there will be more defence cuts later on this year, so it will
be even smaller of that, also some of the weapon systems on the pictures
will be scrapped, such as the Leopard 2A4īs and so forth.

Standard issue AK5, here with a regimental guard though
so it has a Surefire (left pience) handguard as well. And the
vest is a non-standard issue one (as the dog)

The swedish homeguard (wartime strength 100.000+) still
use AK4īs (license-built G3īs), here a AK4 OR, with a
Hensoldt 4x24 scope

You donīt know ****. Strv 121 is Leopard 2A4. And the Homeguard will
get their AK4Bīs (which is still a G3) soon, and not AK5Cīs. And as I
said, you are probably just a little " :( " because of the harsh realities
of fact.

The Homeguard which forms the majority of the swedish army doesnīt
even have light mortars. So how those modernized G3īs will help against
Ivan with their T-90īs is beyond me.

Why are you starting a poll to tell us how the swedisha army "sucks" that. You start a poll just to tell everyone, because you are angry at me how the Swedish army "sucks". Pleas, You should grow up, not me.

A bit of information about the Home Guard.

We still use the AK4, in April this year it's said that the AK4B will begin being issued. The AK5 is not going to be used by the Home Guard in the near future, i.e. atleast 10 years. The support weapons we use are Ksp58, Pskott m86 and to some extent Grg48. I've been told that we will see Psg90 comming our way sometimes soon (don't know how long that is).

Bärsystem 2000 will start being issued somewhere around 06-08. We will get that useless piece of cloth that some like to call a beret sometime in the near future 04-05, a sign that the Home Guard is a part of the regular Army. We were told a funny story about this at a recent meeting, apperently several people every week phone the Swedish Army Headquarters and ask when they will get their beret, and the headquarter have now given the order to all company CO to tell their men not to call again. We will also be issued the full kit that all conscripts recieve when starting basic training, now we only have some of the kit (the essentials, but still a load of stuff).

And Mustamato I fail to see how a light mortar would be able to take out a T90, good thing we have Pskott and Grg for that. And in a time of war I think that we will have tons of fun stuff comming our way, that is if our supply system hasn't broken down. Our former CO (An ex coastal jaeger)
tried to get us some AG90 but that was rejected because it would be a sign that the home guard is a priority. But who knows maybe in the future when the people with heavy stars starts realizing that the Home Guard is a good thing to have, maybe we will begin seeing this stuff in our armoury. BTW our current CO is also a former coastal jaeger.

Polls are great! People voting about things the know nothing about. I have worked with canadians, brits, americans (regular and sf), danes, norwegians and so on.

I wont write about my experiences with different nations beacuse then alot of ignorant people knowing nothing will attack me and tell me how it really is... regardless if it is positive or negative things
What I can say is that the swedish army stands well in comparision with other nations (atleast that is my experience).

And if we look at international service the swedes are outstanding, the main reason is that all are volunteers to for example americans who are forced to be there. Of course some want to be there but the bulk just wanted to go home.

Oh I can say this, the pakistanis are the worst soldiers ever. They scare me.

Have a good day

Polls are great! People voting about things the know nothing about.

But the meaning is little to get to know what people think. Of course
itīs impossible to actually know something about a country on the other
side of the globe. But thatīs not the point. Who knows, maybe the
pakistanis kick ass, you just donīt think so :)

Personally I think that swedish soldiers are excellent in smaller units, say
platoon and company, well maybe even batallion. But above that is difficult
to say nowadays since those exercises are not held (I think Snöstorm in
2001 was the last one), and itīs not easy to say how the cuts have affected
the situation, but itīs sure as hell not in any positive way. And as said earlier,
will be more cuts later on this year with FB 2004.

Well being afraid of the dark and demons is not good when being soldiers. Not being able to repair your veichles and constantly requesting help because of getting lost. And firing in the air to scare of the demons know and then. Well I just dont know. :D
But then again maybe you have had better experiences with the pakistanis

Mustamato, you've always known where my loyalties lay...

The Swedish army is a lot smaller than it used to be, but what it lacks in numbers it makes up in equipment and training these days.

Of course further cuts to the defence budget are going to make the situation a bit uneasy, but then again Sweden does not really have a "clear and present" danger (like, umm...the Russians for an example) aimed at it this time.

Better to use smaller and well trained forces at this time, and when and if a larger conflict lights up, call in the big guns...

Only transport. Although Iīve heard that odd rumour that there might
be "door-gunners" on the Hkp 14/15, but that is only rumours probably,
they will be unarmed. The Hkp 14 will be used in a airborne jaeger
batallion. The Hkp 14 would need some "proper protection" in that role.
Finland will also have their NH90īs in that some role. Perhaps they will
buy some Tigers as protection. But itīs a matter of money of course, but
the military wants some. But the politicians donīt.

http://www.kockums.se/SurfaceVessels/Resources/visbystor.jpeg
The Visby-class will have room for one Hkp 15

http://www.army-technology.com/projects/tiger/images/tiger1.jpg
I know that Finland and Sweden has loosely looked at the escort/combat-
version of the Tiger to support the airborne batallions with NH90īs.
But unfortunately I donīt think they will get any becuase of $$

Well each helicopter takes 20 soldiers. They donīt wooosch in like in the

The reason why the swedish army is so small and neat is because:

First off all we got a really small defence budget

Acording to politians we dont need a big army defending sweden right now (dont start a discussion about that) but we may need one in the future. So we keep small forces just to develop tactics and keep the military knowledge we have.

And of course have an international capability like kosovo, isaf, congo and before, bosnia.

So that gives us an military with good quality and small quantity. Actually, if sweden were invaded today by some country we would not be avalible to defend ourselves. The official figures of the amount of swedish military are low, the real amount of soilders and airplanes that can be mobilised in an event of war are actually MUCH lower. You would be surprised if we for example would start to talk about what some of our jas39s are doing today.
