I never used that thing (is it the new thermal scope?) on a G36, but I tried out a 1st generation night sight on a G3 a while ago. If the size of the scope is any indicator for the weight, that thing must be friggen heavy. Probably close to the weight of the MG3 with that AG36 attached...

Heinzi

A friend if mine used the G36 with the big night vision thingie. I recall that he found it a bird hard and clumsy to use.

Pretty obvious I think :D

It's actually a MEK operator for Hamburg has no SEK.

They don't use high power scopes for precision shooting but usually for perimiter work and spotting.

Yep. You are correct. Only squad belt-fed rifle that can be converted over to a quasi sniper rifle. It isn't as accurate as other guns, but it is pretty accurate.

Is the G3 ZF still in use with Bundeswehr units today?

I think so. At first, the G3ZF is nothing more than a standart issued G3A3 with an attached scope what should be easily to contrive with every present G3, and additionally, there were quite many complaints about the inadequate use of the G36 as a "quasi"-DMR during abroad deployments.

If I am not completely wrong, the guy on the right carries a G3ZF.

but looks a little bit larger than the original scope :)

Yeah I noticed that. Could either be a thermal sight, or, and that is much more probable, an improvised dust cover. Many German soldiers in Afghanistan use self made covers for their scope since there are no regularly issued ones, at least as far as I know.

Yes, I was thinking along those lines. Moreover, since the M14 is experiencing such a renaissance in the US Army for marksmen, I thought the G3 would see similar use with the BW abroad.

It does, but only in limited numbers since the Armed Forces have extensively minimized the amout of G3s in their inventory. Not every unit disposes of G3s anymore.

Yep. You are correct. Only squad belt-fed rifle that can be converted over to a quasi sniper rifle. It isn't as accurate as other guns, but it is pretty accurate.

Hmmm seeing as you have a few, perhaps you could send one for testing... p-)

This definitely isn't any kind of thermal weapons sight.

ive seen all kinds of stuff up here.....m40s, g36s, barretts, even a damn hk21 used for sniping?

anyway ive only seen a couple psg1 and no msg 90.....what gives?

why would hk develop the best semi auto sniper rifle the world has seen (often more accurate than some bolt action rifles) and germany not use it? germans often have a way of not making sense to me though.

Perhaps that unit didn't recieve any, or they deemed that the PSG-1 was not a good choice for whatever their job was that day/week/rotation, or something? Can't base alot off a picture.

Simple explanation: the MSG90 might be a Sniper Rifle fitting into military use, but the PSG-1 is not since it was clearly developed for the GSG9, thus for police snipers, and is due to the scope limited to a range of 600m. It's sure a very accurate and reliable weapon, but definitely no mulit-purpose gear and is said to be susceptible for more serious conditions like sandy environment et cetera. That's at least what I was told.
Nonetheless nearly every German Police SEK (as well as several units abroad) has adopted the weapon, that's for HK better than nothing in my opinion.

The G3ZF have the standard barrels, but that are specially outsortet ones of a higher quality. ;)

Wow awesome pics of modern German snipers proudly carrying on the tradition set by their Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers.

German snipers = Deadly

Or not. I'd be impressed if they were shooting at something that can actually shoot back. You can't kill a paper target.
