Kinda funny how they have evolved! Many of the songs that were heard on the battlefields and campfires of the American Civil War are now used in many college fight songs with different lyrics.

Dixie

Wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times there are not forgotton
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land
In Dixie's Land where I was born
Early on a frosty morning
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land

wish i was in Dixie, harah, harah
In Dixie's Land I stand, to live or die for Dixie
Away, away, away down south in Dixie
Away, away, away down south in Dixie
-
Ole Misus married Will Dawever
William was a gay deceiver
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land
But then he put his arm around her
He smiled as fierce as a forty pounder pounder
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land

Chorus
-
Now heres for health to the next ole misus
And the gals, that want to kiss us,
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land
But if you want to drive away sorrow
Come and here this song to-morrow
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land
-
Chorus
-
His face was sharp as a butchers cleaver
But that did-not seem to greave her
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land
The ole Missus acted the foolish part,
Died for a man that broke her heart,
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land
-
Chorus
-
It's buckwheat cakes, and Injun batter,
Makes you fat, or a little fatter,
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's land
Then hoe it down and scratch your gravel,
To Dixie's Land I'm bound to travel,
Look away, look away, look away to Dixie's Land
-
Chorus

The Battle Cry Of Freedom Northern Version

Yes, we'll rally 'round the flag, boys
We'll rally once again
Shouting the battle cry of freedom
We will rally from the hillside
We'll gather from the plain
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.
Chorus

The Union forever, hurrah, boys, hurrah!
Down with the traitor, up with the star!
While we rally 'round the flag, boys,
Rally once again
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.

We are springing to the call
For three hundred thousand more
Shouting the battle cry of freedom
And we'll fill the vacant ranks
Of our brothers gone before
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.

Chorus

We will welcome to our numbers
The loyal, true and brave
Shouting the battle cry of freedom
And although he may be poor
He shall never be a slave
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.

Chorus

So we're springing to the call
From the East and from the West
Shouting the battle cry of freedom
And we'll hurl the rebel crew
From the land we love the best
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.

The Battle Cry Of Freedom Southern Version

Our flag is proudly floating on the land and on the main,
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
Beneath it oft we've conquered, and we'll conquer oft again!
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
CHORUS

CHORUS
Our Dixie forever! She's never at a loss!
Down with the eagle and up with the cross!
We'll rally 'round the bonny flag, we'll rally once again,
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!

Our gallant boys have marched to the rolling of the drums,
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
And the leaders in charge cry, "Come, boys, come!"
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
CHORUS

They have laid down their lives on the bloody battle field,
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
Their motto is resistance -- "To tyrants we'll not yield!"
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
CHORUS

While our boys have responded and to the fields have gone,
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
Our noble women also have aided them at home,
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
CHORUS

BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.

I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
“As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
[originally …let us die to make men free]
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.

He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

The Bonnie Blue Flag

We are a band of brothers and native to the soil
Fighting for the property we gained by honest toil
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!
Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

As long as the Union was faithful to her trust
Like friends and brethren, kind were we, and just
But now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

First gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand
Then came Alabama and took her by the hand
Next, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida
All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Ye men of valor gather round the banner of the right
Texas and fair Louisiana join us in the fight
Davis, our loved President, and Stephens statesmen are
Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

And here's to brave Virginia the Old Dominion state
With the young Confederacy at length has linked her fate
Impelled by her example now other states prepare
To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears the single star.

Then here's to our Confederacy strong we are and brave
Like patriots of old we'll fight our heritage to save
And rather than submit to shame to die we would prefer
So cheer for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears the single star.

Then cheer boys cheer raise the joyous shout
For Arkansas and North Carolina now have both gone out
And let another rousing cheer for Tennessee be given
The single star on the Bonnie Blue Flag has grown to be eleven.

And to Missouri we extend both heart and hand
And welcome her a sister of our Confederate band
Tho surrounded by oppression no one dare deter
Her adding to our Bonnie Blue Flag her bright and twelfth star!

Naw, *****sburg was sooooo much better IMO.

I went to the screening of Gods and Generals in Palm Springs with Ron Maxwell in attendance and I had a huge problem with its pacing and some of the acting. The women-folk were seriously just AWFUL I thought and each time they were on brought the movie to a huge crashing halt. And some scenes with General Jackson were unnecessary, we got the idea he was a devoutly religious man early on.. no need to keep bringing it up.

Also the action scenes were no where near the caliber and immersive qualities as *****sburg were. A lot of the CG effects were over-used and re-used and it became very disorientating.
