Wow, have these guys been playing too much Rainbow 6 or what? Sounds a lot like a mission from the game Rainbow 6. Seriuosly though, hopefully the situation will be resolved without any unneccesary risks being taken. But if it comes down to a military operation hopefully the assaulters will practice the mission in Rainbow 6 first. ;) Ok sorry I'm an ass, I really hope this gets settled quickly, the hostage takers don't seem very professional, and the last thing we want is to force this situation to become any worse than it already is.

The hostage takers are not professional, you're right. They're desperate.... or at least feel like this is their only resort.

Hopefully they can get it over quickly before anyone is killed.

Depending on the situation, they dont just automatically send in the kick ass and take names folks until all peaceful means of resolution have been extinguished. Personally I would like to see a raid on the hostage takers while praying for the safety of the hostages. Oil rigs they say? I can hear the ribbit rrrrrrribbit of frogmen :)

I'm not entirely sure that moving against these folks is in the best interests of everyone involved. I mean, we're not talking hard-line nut-case terrorists or some oppressed ethnic group trying to bring their cause to the international stage; these are working folks who are looking for an increase in their benefits. Reasonable or no, their demands are still about worker's benefits.

Also, no one is sure that these folks have any weapons aboard the rig aside from fire-fighting axes. A non-lethal response might be more appropriate than killing them all.

I'll admit, though, that this is all hypothetical.

i agree with knave, these dont really strike me as terrorists, they are just using this situation to get international attention. they just dont seem to be the ones who would kill hostages just to make a few extra bucks each month, ya know?

What's stupid about such actions though, is that they HAVE to know that they'll all be put in jail immediately after they're taken/killed/slapped. No matter what, they're not going to see an increase in benefits at this point.
