35 stabbings mar London revelry
Sunday January 1, 09:12 AM
The London Ambulance Service reported a "horrifying" spate of stabbings across the capital - 35 in all on a night the service dealt with a record number of emergency 999 calls.
Between midnight and 4am the service dealt with 1,444 calls, up four per cent on the same period last year.
Deputy director of operations Russell Smith, who led the service's New Year's Eve response, said: "We are horrified that there have been so many stabbings on what is an evening of celebration for most people.
"The majority of calls that we have responded to this evening have been alcohol-related.
"Unfortunately, when some people consume alcohol they become more aggressive and we have seen a high number of violent incidents reported."
He added: "At the busiest point of the evening, our staff were taking over 400 calls an hour - more than three times what they would expect to deal with on a normal night."
Two patient transport service vehicles were trialled to free up emergency vehicles - transporting 30 people to hospital suffering the effects of an excessive night out

Sigh.
Whatever happened to the old days where if trouble occured it would be settled with a punch up around the back. These days its all knives or 5 on 1 and they dont stop when he hits the ground either.

35 ? , it's the daily average number of murders in US
35 ? , it's the daily average number of murders in US
...and that's why it is extreme when it happens in one city in one night.
(Don't mind, if you just wanted to say that.)

Only 35 thats not bad actually, I wonder what stats are for Strathclyde. Its been pretty dead in my town over the festive period and New Years Eve and the pubs and clubs were not as busy as most Saturday nights.

Probably be same...or maybe, some of the attackers would be listed among the wounded or dead. ;-) Think of all the people slipping on shell casings though. You can't be gangsta unless you empty and entire magazine without hitting anything!
[EDIT: Corrected terminology yo!]

Prohibition in the UK would save the NHS £2b per annum. The Police attribute 2/3 of all reported assaults (inc violent, aggravated) and other violent assaults like Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) and Grevious Bodily Harm (GBH) to alcohol related incidents.
Not that any Govt would ever dare to take on a multi billion £ industry.
Instead, they'll grant license's for premises' to serve 24 hours a day. Would probably work in a country where alcohol wasn't so ingrained into society.

Prohibition wouldn't work anyways, we Americans already proved that.
