Ok, just got my laptop deliverd to me. Got a Radeon X700 PCI Express card in it.

I don't know what is wrong with it, but when I try to play videos on Windows Media Player the video is bright green and blurry and all messed up.

Sound works, everything else looks Ok.

Anyone got any good ideas?

Stab the plasma screen with a pen. The injection of the ink should solve your problem.

With ATI it could always be a driver issue. Did you install the Windows yourself? Regardless... get the latest driver off ATI's website.

no 2... the codec issue yep.

Does this happen with mpeg movies too ?

To see if it's a codec or driver issue you can download GSPOT and it will tell you if you have the codecs installed for that movie.

yep ATI is radeon.

hey is that a MPEG-2 movie?

You could download this freeware player VLC... it got all codecs built-in.

At least to check if it's codec or drivers.

Thanks for your help fellas, appreciate it.

Cant fix it though, because the computer won't run .exe's. Haha, back to the shop it shall go.

Click on the .exe file and it comes up a small dos window, blank ofcourse and then closes like nothing has happend.

:bash:

You guys wouldnt know what's goin on there would you?

sounds like a bad install of windows... which could happen when the Windows doesn't fully support the hardware or the mem is bad. You need to talk to the shop cause if you install too much drivers on your own it could complicate future tech support...

Ah ha, but I cannot install a driver/codec because of the lack of ability to run .exe's p-)
It's so bad I can't do much but laugh.

You should always install/re-install the machine when you get it yourself. I used to work in IT, and the amount of crap they put on yer PC is amazing and thats if they set the thing up correctly in the first place... the first thing we used to do when setting a PC up for the client is FORMAT.

With laptops, it seams thay just ghost a master HDD onto all the machines aswell... that can also cause all kinds of shizne.

def out

heh... well or you're not allowed to by user rights or the profile is corrupt... log out and log in as administrator and see if that will help.

Or create a new user account and give it full rights.

Something to try out anyway before you go to the shop... or grab a beer and watch some TV.

Sounds like someones screwed around with the Overlay controls under Desktop>Right Click>Properties>Advanced> "Insert Graphics Card Name". There should be a tab in there relating to colour or overlay controls, reset them all to default.

I had a similar problem where I was watching Team America and I wondered why all the doll thingys were green. I thought I had a bad copy or some ****, just turned out to be the overlay settings.

Update your drivers also if you haven't already.

PT, does the entire screen get scrambled when you try to play vidoes or just the portion of the screen where the video should be playing? If it's just the small portion of the screen than it is a codec issue. Your computer is net setup to read the media file correctly. However, if you are unable to run .exes, then there are probably other issues worth having checked out. On top of that, every time you run AoE3, you are running a .exe. Meh...

Yeah, its only the little movie screen.

Yeah, true true. That is what's weird.

I can't run the downloaded .exe's.

You can't run .exe's because your not set as an administrator and have no rights to install programs or patches, so tell your IT guy to set your machine up properly next time and double check his work.

My industry is full of half assed wankers :cantbeli:
