Lengthy article in today's Washington Post quotes contractors paying as much as $2,000 a day to ex-Special Forces personnel for bodyguard duties. Iraqis are paid $200 a month but billed at $2,000 a month.

If they speak arabic, know the ropes etc. they're probably worth that. On the other hand, why not just bribe the local strongmen to use their influence? Or maybe the contractors are doing just that?

You forget to mention U.S. soldiers in Iraq. I doubt they get $2000 a day. In fact, a lot of U.S. reservists and NG lost their money from their civilian side when they deployed to Iraq

bbc news reports the MOD has been forced to hire arabic studies students at £200 a day to act as translators reason iraqi's are not been hired (problems with trust even handiness )
some UK TA soldiers are on silly money as uk rules mean army has to pay equal to civvy pay.

Only up to $50,000pa as some of the city boys in the TA Regiment have learned to their cost ;)

Seems to be a lot of contract security over there. Good idea. Instead of just DOD providing the security... contractors are paid to handle the details and probably out of Saddam's pocket. Just a guess but, that is how I would fund it.

Some guys I used to work with went over there about a month ago. They are earning @ $75K for six months, and that's not a lot in this line of work.

Well with the plethera of companies right now it is pretty good actually. And depending on the type of work. for general security work i.E. airport oil field it is real good but for PSD work it usually pays better, but again depending on the company.

I was gonna start a new thread but might as well post here. Any former operators looking for work I have a couple of leads for some work immediately in Iraq and Haiti. No wannabes or cooks types(no offense to cooks). Former grunt types and SoF types only.

Does it have to be military experience?
What about experience in solving problems, working out deals, ensuring that nothing happens to you or your business, that sort of things...?

Special Forces personnel for bodyguard duties.
Isn't that what 3 or 4 Americans were doing in Gaza before the Palestinians killed them? couple months back.

Not interested in Haiti or Iraq.. but possibly some PSD work in the future. What kind of company is it? The reason I ask is that I was hoping to go to the US Army PSD school this year and possibly do some short term contract work after. This isn't for Wackenhut is it?

Not that Triggerpuller can't defend himself...

Don't smack the gift horse in the mouth. For many of those not have been heavily affiliated with these type of units (SoF), this might be chance to learn something that usually stays within the "circle". I would suggest you not piss him off lest he shuts up. They are a lot of great opportunities I am sure he can let qualified people know about and may possibly let people prepare for the vetting processes. You aren't going to just 'wingit' with most quality companies. And many contracts are not public billboard displayed to ensure the knuckleheads are not kept to a low number, so type less and read more so that perhaps we can learn a little more.

TP - do you mind stating which company you are with? BWS - TC - CB - ram etc ? I can certainly understand if you choose not to.

Thanks.

Yep I have Buddies in Baghdad doing this job, working for American Companies, some ex SF some ,regular Infantry dudes, but all from the Same Background Regiment.

Told me there is a lot of money to be earned in Iraq just now,as long as these PMC's are legit, then it's a great idea,as it also relieves the pressure on regular units having to provide these duties.

My buds are looked after very well, but still tell me Iraq and in Particular Baghdad is "Fokkin nuts"
