Nice. Is this a Leo variant or a native design? I don't know much about JSDF.

Japanese design. A very good tank, but expensive. Japanese law won't allow the export of weapons, so all the costs of developing the tank are swallowed up in the few hundred tanks Japan buys for its own use.

the type 90 was designed by both German and Japanese engineers thats why it looks like a Leo2 and yes a very good tank indeed. Last i heard it won 3rd place in the enternational tank comp.

Well maybe it is better if militarism is banned since last time when it was not banned but glorified...

Hokkaido is the only part of Japan where nature permits large-scale armored movement. The other Islands, Honshu,Shikoku and Kyushu are too mountanous for any tank operations. That's why Japan has always invested more in the Air Force and Navy to stop any invader before they can reach the "Motherland". AEGIS-class destroyers and the F-15/16-based Japanese fighter bomber planes should be more than enough to send a clear message to all neighbouring countries.

The US Air Force and Navy bases (one carrier battle group) on Honshu and the Marine contingent on Okinawa are further assurances Japan will not be attacked CONVENTIONALLY. However, the issue of a Japanese nuclear deterrent is becoming more and more relevant and will be a major problem regarding the future of the entire region.

I know the Type 90 also has the Leo2 gun. I'm not sure if they have anything else in common. I guess the old Axis allies are still helping each other out. ;) Heck, even the Japanese camo looks like German Flecktarn.

As for their constitution, they are now taking baby steps in expanding it. The Iraq deployment is a very big deal to them. Also some Japanese want to expand Japan's military capabilities due to the growing power of China and the continuing threat from North Korea. America would also like Japan to take a larger part in Asia, which would free up U.S. troops for war on terror. The U.S. really pushed Japan to deploy troops to Iraq.

You just make me sick, if anybody had a just reason to A-Bomb anybody, it was Japan and Germany that had that.. As you American killed millions of civilians of those both nations..I'm not an american, i'm belgian (EUROPE). My family saw the holocaust, german V-1 bombs, nazi terror and the fighting on the front. Most of my family was in the resistance during the war and one was in the american army (he sufferd ALOT) so i grew up with tales of horrors (so your german and japanese a-bomb makes me sick). I'm happy to say they killed lots of germans.

And sure the japenese killed citizens at pearl. Civilian deaths is a part of war. Even here in belgium there was a town that was almost completely destroyed by allied bombs (they hit the wrong target), but they didn't complain to the allied force knowing the alternative.
And the germans and japanese were so kind to put their factories of war next to the houses of worker, not to mention the wood of the houses.

There was an alternative for the a-bombs; FAR more death by armed invasion because the japanese refused to surrender. They dropped it and with good reason.

It was the greatest and most destuctive war anyone had seen on earth. The A-Bomb brought a proper end to it. Aswell as showing us the possible horrors of nuclear war. The two A-Bomb drops were much better when compared to the millions of deaths and the vast destruction, both military and civilian, both Axis and Allied, that an invasion of Japan would create. For f***s sake man, it's history, learn from it, so it doesn't happen again, instead of slinging mud and other **** around. Some of you lot make these Forums a f***ing **** place to be... Happy? F***ing pricks...

Woah, the first time I've blew up at somebody... :|

Wow, now that I read this I wonder what ever compelled me to call you an idiot. Pansy-ass constitution? Don't you remember the reason that we put it into place. It was a little party called WWII. At the party the Japanese army ran roughshod over most of Asia for a few years before we put an end to it. Pansy-ass? Try, self-preservation. numbnuts

you lack rational thought.

by your own admission it is okay to kill civilians since we put sanctions against the japanese.

thus it is okay for us to kill german and japanese civilians because germans were attacking our shipping and japan attacked pearl harbor.

sweet jesus, the public schools are really turning out some winners these days.

on topic: i love the type 90, i just wish it was more effective against godzilla.

What the hell? It's not like Japan was doing nothing and suddently USA decided to impose sanctions against it! Japan was the one that made the first move by invading other countries. Germany invaded Poland. They are the aggressors, not victims. Well, victims of their own aggression.
I don't know what country you are from but you obviously study a very different world history.

Anyways, Japan is VERY different today. They are one of America's best allies, and i think expanding their military is not a bad idea.

Oh, wait, sorry, they were too busy fighting alongside the Wehrmacht and SS. I forgot.

Not much different. Consider the fact that they have yet to formally apologise for what they did.

All the talks of expressing their remorse are just too superficial.

The japaneese killed about 20 million chineese people, they saw themself as superior humans (aisan nazis! rofl ), if the USA had lost the war then the japs would have killed many americans too.

The major reason to why the japs didn't kill many american civilians, because they did ****ing kill some, was the great distance to the US mainland.

If you want to know what the japs did with the chineese search for:
Unit 731 : http://www.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/NanjingMassacre/NMU731.html

The Nanking slaughter
http://www.gotrain.com/dan/nanking1.htm

As for the nukes: I think the japs should thank the USA for nuking it twice instead of invading the country conventionally. The losses in both human lives and material destruction would have been many times bigger if an invasion was done.

spoonman,

Unien read history... Sanctions ware introduced to stop japan military expansion in pacific region, And as to civilians tell that to Nankin citizens that jap soldiers were cool guys, or to US,British,NZ,AUS and others who were captured by japs in the far east and were held in what we can sometimes compare to the soft version of concentration camps. Many died not to mention POW's... and planned military Invasion estimated ca.1Million loses only on US side. Not to mention probably couple of milions of Japs (those estimates were calculated after Okinawa and Iwo Jima where japs fighted to the last man...) So 200 000 of dead civilians was lesser of two evils also it was such a cold shower on jap heads that they realized there is no sense to fight longer.

Here is map with the plan of invasion
