Hi,

I read that the Bundeswehr will get some Petit Véhicule Protégé (PVP), Bundeswehr designation "Gavial".

Any more info about this vehicle? How many PVP's will the French Army procure?

The Bundeswehr will use the Gavial for their airborne-recce-companies.

why the hell do we need to buy this vehicle ? We have the Dingo , the Fennek and the G-wagen ... Why not order german made vehicles , would also help the economy

Because Germany has no armored car in the ~5t class. Dingo and Fennek both weigh almost twice as much, and the Wolf hasnt got the mine protection.

I somehow doubt that. Yes, maybe from pistol, light small arms, and light fragmentation, but this has all the problems a Humvee has. Nice flat surface for heat rounds...ouch...

You have to remember the same Tasks were done by completely unarmored vehicles just a few years ago, so its still a big improvement.
The US-Army uses a unarmored vehicle for that job till today.

My point is, that if you are using it as a recce vehicle go for speed, easy in and out, less weight, wider wheel base, less armor, more visibility. That is simply an armored box with a big windshield front windshield...the protection it gains from the armor offsets the purpose of the vehicle...to gain information through visual confirmation.

Ever tried to do exactely that while driving? Its usually neccesary to stop when observing.

The German motor pool is getting bigger and bigger... we'll soon have as many different types as actual vehicles. Not saying this particular thing wasn't good or worth buying, but we're steering right into a logistical nightmare.

Don't worry. Bundeswehr will find a solution. You Germans always find solutions...

Thats nasty p-)

Anyway, though many new vehicles are entering (or about to enter service), there is also a lot of stuff that will get phased out. And the new Bundeswehr focus on extra-territorial deployments demands vehicles at least with some sort of mine-protection, if not fully armored.
