Thai aircraft carrier (Helicopter carrier) HTMS Chakri Naruebet. This ship commissioned in 1997. At that moment this ship is inavtive due to high operating cost that affected by Asian Economic Crisis. But we have some money now and able to operate her again. (200,000 Baht, about 4,000 US$, is the cost that we must pay if we just only start her engine.)

Thanks skyman, very good to see

Can you tell me what is the status of the Thai harriers ? if they had any upgrades or something.

I don't know about the details of harriers too much. It's ex-spainsh harriers. Very old. I think there is no upgrade for those aircrafts. But the upgrade seems not to be worthwhile. Somebody in Royal Thai Navy said RTN should buy UK harriers which will be decomission soon.

RTN aims to buy F-35 for aif defencing role for the whole fleet. But It might take 10 years or more. So I think RTN should not spend too much on upgrading the harrier. Just fly and learn form them, and wait for JSF.

Hey!

I saw it here ( Spain ) whenit was being builded :D

I also know the pilots that went to Thailand to train your pilot in Harrier combat ( sadly one of them died in an accident in our aircraft carrier not long ago :( )

The Harriers in the pic were the "8º Escuadrilla" ( 8º Squadron? ) here in Rota ( Cadiz ) :)

Good pics!

We paid 7,000,000,000 Baht. (175,000,000 US$) In Thailand we pay 35 Baht for each meal.

http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/7356/911102jn.jpg

But 7,000,000,000 Baht for the national security is alway cheap.

I would say 175 million is rather cheap. I mean relative to what other items might cost. It could buy only about 5 modern fighter jets. Or not even one F-22A :)

Although I suppose that sum hasn't been adjusted to a currency of today.

I believed an aircraft carrier is a 'force-projection' asset... I wondered where Thailand intends to project its forces?
