Hi guys. I saw a guy wearing these things last week. I thought the Bates M-9s were weird-looking over-the-top crazy-ass boots. But these puppies take the cake:

Weeeiiirrdd!!!
Anybody got any experience with these bad boys? Or even the Bates M9s, for that matter?
For reference, Bates M9:

Being a converse fan i'd like to get my grubby little hands on a pair.
Looks good to me...
Light, comfortable and ankle support...did it give a price?

I just got issued a set of the Bates, but the shorter version (6", I think). I haven't had a chance to actually use them yet, but they're super comfy.
As for the converse... I dunno, but I've been issued Chuck Taylors and assaulted in those before. :D

I have the Bates M9 Black.
Pros:
- Most comfortable pair among all the boots I have.
- Paddings on the ankles are really thick.
- Grip is vibram mutant and is fairly good.
- Great ventilation. (feet never felt sweaty in it)
- Havent got any water leak in yet.
Cons:
- Soles are sadly not as slient as my Altama Tacticals.
- Thinsulate doesnt really keep feet that warm.
IMHO, doing a visual comparation,
- THe Converse one has too many indents EVERYWHERE which alows dirt to settle in there. (good luck cleaning it out)
- Take note of the holes for the laces, doesnt seem waterproof.
- Notice the top 3 eyelets for the bates are on a seperate piece of leather from the lower holes. (really allows one to squat easily.)
- The lugs on the converse are so thin... (good luck cleaning that again)
- Cant really think of anything good to say about the converse except they look very 'complicated'?

I have a pair.
Pros:
The fit well, very snug, and offer decent support.
They are light
Good traction, but I haven't ran through any oil slicks.
Cons:
I don't like side zippers.
They don't breath well, and are hot.
Not waterproof, and because they dont breath well, take forever to dry.
If you're buying these to beat them to death, they will die. Bates and Danners are better boots.
edit: cleaning is a cinch, dry brush does the trick quickly.

I've seen scouts wearing them, they said they work great.

FYI:
Supposedly, these style of boots are not authorized for wear with the ACU. It's not specifically stated in the reg, but we're fighting the battle to wear our Oakleys, and the command called SGM Easley at HQDA, who said that boots with "garish" designs or stampings are not authorized.
As far as the Converse, the one pair I have tried were very stiff in the mid-foot, almost like a snowboard boot.

Who do you work for that you're not allowed to wear Oakley boots?

The post SGM here seems to hate them. He put it out to the various Detachment NCOs, so now they're "prohibited", even in the field.

Ranger friend of mine said the converse boots he was given fell apart pretty quickly in Astan. He had never worn the oakley's but advised me not to get the cons due to his experience.

I wonder if these were first designed by the Nike People(Nike Owns Converse) but they decided to pass it on to Converse to see what the reaction would be.

We just got issued the Nike assault boots, too. They look like Air Jordans - I dunno how they're going to hold-up.

Please tell me you don't mean the grey ones? When we tested the boots for FFW, a bunch of people got the various boots, and there were a few people fighting over who would get the grey ones, because they "look pimp wit jeans".

They're black. They seriously look like a beefed-up pair of Air Jordans - air pockets in the bottom and everything.
I'll try to get pictures.
