This video is "shocking Norway", according to the media that is, that are "killing
of innocent dogs in front of children". Hm, what we really see is 20-30 dogs that has

From what I read not all of them were stray dogs. The article I read stated that at least one was on a leash and somebody supposedly owned that dog. Plus the vid was distributed with a soundtrack as "entertainment".

Yea , funny thing . When i was little i used to chaise chickens in the farm . When i cached one , i would cut they head off , and the funny thing is , that headless chicken would run a great deal , before eventually falling on the ground , and all shaking for couple of seconds ... The vidio I watched had bad sound so I didn't hear the laughing. But sure it could be there.

They usually shoot stry dogs due to the fact that the spred disease.
The seven shotes with the glock was probably because of the fact tath the dog had "deathspasms" (?) and the soldier thought he was still alive.

Second dog, only reason I see for shooting it is that it probably had been left there by owners that disappeared.

I find it sort of a waste of resources to drag all the muts back to base to have doc give them a lethal injection.

And yes, the vidio has upset two groups of people in Norway, the people that no jack **** about what happens in Kosovo, and the ploitician, who seems to be braindead.
The military has, of course presented a formal excuse, because the press always twists things out of perspective. :)

The Terminators: Street dogs are prize game for canine bounty hunters

In the still hours of Yerevan mornings, the staff of “Stray Animal Control” goes into the streets with an unpleasant but profitable job.

Three men, armed with hunting rifles track down and kill dogs that have become a nuisance and, sometimes, a danger.

Since the early 1990s, when street dogs became a hazard in Yerevan, 47-year-old Ashot Gazaryan, a jeweler, 41-year-old Gagik Poghosyan, a day laborer, and 40-year-old Edik Yeranyan, an engineer, work their “second” jobs from midnight until 5 a.m.

For animal lovers their work is controversial, even intolerable. But for these canine bounty hunters, it is simple.

They identify their prey – sometimes on complaints from residents – and shoot them. Then they cut off the tail – proof of a kill – for which a dog hunter is paid 300 drams (about 60 cents) and his driver 100 drams (about 20 cents).*

On an average night a hunter/driver team collects 8 to 10 tails.*

An active hunter can make as much as $100 a month – double or triple the salary of ordinary municipal employees.

A committee of 9 persons, whose odd job it is to count dog tails and decide how much money should be paid to each hunter, hands out salaries.

The animal carcasses are hauled to a garbage dump and buried.

Even the director of the service, Michael Davdyan, regards the methods the city council employs as barbaric and undesirable.

“I have a dog for a very long time,” he says. “However, street dogs became a real problem for the capital.

“The truth is that the method of control we have chosen is awful and very cruel, however we do not have an alternative. Packs of dogs wandering in town are not just frightening for the citizens, but also very dangerous.”

According to official statistics, street dogs bite more than 300 people every year in Yerevan.

An international organization for animal protection promised $1 million to create an animal shelter in Yerevan. The offer was made several years ago but has remained unfulfilled.

Besides this, there was a project worked out by local Armenians, according to which street dogs would not be simply exterminated.*

Instead, a center for “neutralizing” dogs would be created and, after extermination the dog skin would be processed, their meat given to animals in the Yerevan zoo, and their fat given to the Yerevan Oil and Soap Factory.

This project hasn’t happened yet either, lack of finances being just one of the considerations. Other alternatives have been proposed for controlling street dogs.*

One was to shoot dogs with syringes filled with poison.*

The principal objection to this measure was that many stray dogs scavenge in street garbage bins. It was feared that poison from syringes would leak into the garbage, where many destitute people search for their daily meal. Thus, it was feared, the poison could kill them too.

The dog hunters say that their prey have become wise to the hunters’ intentions. When the “Stray Animal Control” vehicles appear, street dogs start barking, snarling, and howling, running away as fast as they are able.

The hunters say they are quite particular which dogs they choose to exterminate: killing a tailless animal is a waste of bullets.

I've heard from our soldiers who were on UN/SFOR that there are sometimes quite a many animals turn wild after their owners fled or were killed - some of them, especially dogs (cows and pigs or chickens rater not ;) ) can be dangerous, and thus are hunted. "Dogs of War" are nothing new - they always accompanied devastation that war causes. Only thing is - Why the f.. those guys were filming that rather unpleasant duty? Why the music in background? Why use 9mm SMG and handguns instead of 12g shotguns - especially if there are rules for that in Norge army? :roll: Its basically SANITARY duty - nothing you earn honour an medals with, nothing to laugh at or be proud with... They are not laughing in the video that I can see. The imagery is to bad to se facial expressions, but I can't see any body language hinting at "joy" either. The only thing they say that isn't edited out is

There were so many stray dogs when I was in Kosovo they were going around the ruins of the Gipsy village in Mitrovica in herds of up to 30...

Since many had tasted human flesh when eating corpses just after the war, they were considered more dangerous. They were mangy, ugly and stinky and probably carried all sorts of diseases.

The keeping of cubs by soldiers was of course prohibiten; the SOP was normally to poison them with special pills but it took them ages to die in writhing pain. So they were shot instead.

The locals used to club them to death or, when dealing with cubs, to put them in bags and to drown them in the Ibar river.

mustamato, the dog clearly did not die immediately. Look at the video again. The dog does a whole lot more than just wag his tail as the trooper that approaches him discharges seven more rounds.

I do realize that there is such a thing as 'death-spasms' but that dog shot with an MP5 at +/- ten meters did not die immediately and warranted that the trooper examine more closely.

I agree that a 12 Ga. shotgun or a well placed shot is the better approach for this task.

I see absolutely no ****ing problem in killing those dogs, so what. Wild dogs are a problem in an inhabited area, usually the cary a lot of crap, lice, scab and often rabies, they pose a threat to you and the locals (both your health and physical security), putting a bullet into them is acceptable.

When I was in the army and we had this surviving exercise we were learnt
how to make food out of what´s in the forest. Meaning kill a rabbit by smashing
the head of it. I guess I´m a pussy to but I didn´t exactly enjoy it. Especially
not since my rabbit seemed to notice what happened to his pals around him and
sort of panicked. But I guess Darwins principles applies to it, the survival of the
strongest or how it now was. If it most be done it should of course be done as
fast as possible (with a rabbit you hold it upside down against your warm thigh, then
it becames calm, and then you smash its head, it dies immediately).

If they wanted to exterminate the dogs for whatever reason, catching them and having them sedated would have been a much more humane way of doing it, no matter about the cost. Being a dog owner, all I feel is pity for these animals. May be gutless of me, but dogs/animals dont deserve to be treated like this. If they were a threat to others and there was no way to catch them safely, than I guess I can reluctantly justify the killings, but they dont need to be shot at like they are target practice, 1 bullet does the job.

The problem is that it can be hard to kill cleanly (especially with pistol-calibre ball). They try, but fail on the first dog shown. Then the guy tries to end it quickly.

The way I interpreted his body languafe is that he almost panicked when he saw that the dog was still alive...

This is nowhere near as awfull as that Brazilian(?) Para video where they blindfolded stabb dogs to death...

For the record. I don't like dogs, and that I've proven earlier in this forum.

But those pictures that was taken down in Kosovo of laughing snots really upset me.

This is not a professional soldier do whatever reason he has. It is clearly that some of those dogs that were shot was not killied due to standard prosedures.

How do I know? Well. I was down in KFOR in 2000. Guess what platoon that had the sole responsibility to kill stray dogs?? Yup! Right, my platoon.
And we had strict rules on how to do it.
First: Use a shot gun. Never ever, unless you were directly attacked or you saw other being attacked by dogs you were allowed to use the Glock, the MP5 or the G3. Shot gun or nothing else.

We also had pre-made a pit were to burn the dogs afterwards, and by the look of that video it seems that that would be these idiots last concern to even consider.

2) The problem with groups like PETA and Western Societies in general is that they see Dogs, Cats, Horses etc as Pets to lavish their attention and their bank accounts upon.

It was taped by one of the guys in the group, i.e. one of the soldiers. Someone close (if not themselfs) added the music at an later point when they got home. The video eventually got spread outside the original group (thank God for video-capture-cards and Internet) and some journalist found it...and from thereon it went.


There are proper procedors on how to do this hunt for sick dogs, but they went on their own hunting-trip to have some fun. _That_ is what is wrong.
