Kids today. Don't you watch MTV? Adam Curry was a VJ in the late 80s and early 90s. He was a television and radio personality in the US and the Netherlands before and after this. He has a blog where he recently posted a lot of his own pictures of this trip.

82nd patch and an Air Force rank...? Why?
When I was in Kuwait/Iraq I asked the same thing! When Air Force Personnel a re assigned to the Army, they wear the unit insignia the are attached to. Usually its not sewn correctly and looks slightly silly. Most AF personell assigned to the Army are combat weather. Even the AF personell cracked jokes about them! :)

Hey Vance and Sethen, those airmen (with 82nd Abn Div combat patch) mostly likly are TACP's! (Tactical Air Control Party) From the 14th ASOS.
And since this Senior Airman (three stripes) wears the 82nd patch on his right shoulder, he would have been with them in Afghanistan.
Yes, weather and TACP are assigned to Air Support Operations Squadrons, or ASOS. Which each US Army Division and (Seperate) Brigade have an ASOS aligned with them. While aligned to that particluar division or brigade they may wear the Army shoulder patch. Or combat patch, if they deployed with them.
USMC has its own TACP and the USN provides ANGLICO's, when needed.
