I´ve seen more american warmovies than I can even remember. Actually
I´m download the good old "The heroes of Telemark" from 1965 right now.
And I assume it´s american, despite being about Norway and a british raid.

But the realism is usually lacking in american warmovies, in this european
warmovies are usually better, they don´t have that bull**** patriotism in them
either that makes the enemy stereotypes. Like in Saving Private Ryan were
all the germans have shaved heads (I guess to resemble modern day skinheads).
Exactly how often did german soldiers have shaven heads back in the days?
Although it´s even worse when europeans try to make "Hollywood"-movies.
This is from a finnish movie which is very beautifully filmed, and good music
and all that. But the plot is the worst ever:

it probably did happen, but I don´t think it happened that very
often. Yes and of course the father had to die as well in the movie.

As many others here, I too watch all sorts of movies, and sometimes the Hollywood crap can be the worst ever, I'm afraid.

But, let's keep this one in warmovies-related subjects on my part.

The Polish "war movies" that I talked about in a thread some time ago were excellent, not to mention this one Russian movie about Chechnya that was shown here. Don't ask me about the name though...

Now I must say that the older US made war films are alot better than the ones made in the 90's , despite their rather interesting realism and heroic "John Wayne"-types.

Saving private Ryan wasn't all that bad until the end where the whole atmospheric war movie explodes into a dull action-scene where the sock bombs (?) destroy tanks and so on...

Now "Blackhawk down" had these sorts of moments as well, but overall it was very realistic and the story really captured the book well.

I can always remember that one scene where this old Somali man walked over the street in front of the US Humvee convoy, holding that dead boy in his hands...

Upcoming new finnish warmovie, those that have seen it already (not the
final version that is) said that it was excellent. It´s called "Etulinjan edessä",
which would be something like "In front of the front"? Hm, probably not a correct
translation because it sounds strange. But whatever:

I watch whatever I want to, country of origin is immaterial. Films in my collection include "Shallow grave" (British), "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (Taiwan), "Das Boot" & "Run Lola run"(German), and one of my all time favourites "Brotherhood of the wolf" (French). I've also been known to drink Chilean wine, but that probably doesn't matter.

The movies I most frequently see at the theater are animated or rated G. Also predominately produced by Disney. Hmm.. what sort of political stereotype would that put me in????
