X2. PoliSci is a waste unless you stay in school for the rest of your life. I did the same thing as Ed and I suffer the same fate as Ed.

Economics or Finance or History
Or Accounting.
Accounting is a fun and challenging field of study.
You could include Marketing and Management if you're into memorization classes.

If you are looking for a career that will allow you to make a comfortable living without having to obtain an advanced degree, engineering majors are probably going to be your best bet. Right out of undergrad, Nuclear Engineers were pulling $88k average, per 2004 OES Industry Specific Surveys. Next group would be the Chems, BioMechs, etc.
Bear in mind that you will have to pursue a PE License administered by the state in which you plan on practicing, and maintain continuing education credits, but it is well worth it. Most of my fellow classmates who went L.A. or Finance, have not had much success from a financial standpoint.

Oh yeah, nuclear engineering is a great option, sadly, for most people it's about as interesting as watching concrete crumble due to natural processes. If all you care about it money and don't mind what you'll be doing - by all means go for the money. I, on the other hand, would advise you to do something that really grips your attention. That OSU major sounds really interesting, if you knuckle down and really work hard, I'd recommend the Security Studies Program at Georgetown for your graduate work. Graduates from the Security Studies Institute have great immediate contacts within the defense industry upon graduation.

get a degree in business if you're not 100% sure what you wanna do. It's a degree that relates to alot of fields.

Dont...i took that road and now im stuck in a rather dead-endish job i hate.
A degree in business WILL get a job that pays decent. Thats the only reason i stay here is the pay.
But a degree in business WONT really challenge you all that much, nor will it really put you in a job you enjoy doing, unless sitting at a desk crunching numbers and trying to sell junk is what you enjoy. I know for one thing fixing broken cash registers, arguing with customers over bad meat cuts and getting after 16 year old employees who refuse to do any work or wash their hands after pissing is not exactly the job i want to be doing. But it is what you get with a business degree (if your lucky, you might not even be able to find a well paying management job) and thankfully they pay me enough to save myself the excessive cost of going back to school, even though sometimes i wish i could.
I wish i went to school for something like PoliSci or Security Studies...****, i dont think any schools around here even offer something like Security Studies... There is a Homeland Security Institute, but its more geared towards First Responders and Police training than someone who is pursuing a career in Intelligence or Defense.

What is your long term plan? What do you want your college education to do for you? Without some basic info on what you want to do it hard to develop a plan of attack.
I would say take classes you are interested in. Engineering is great but you have to be able to handle the math & science loads that go with it, too. But if it floats your boat, drive on. Good liuck.

i actually was enrolled in the electrical engineering field, but its such b.s. you do get paid a lot of money, but it seems that most engineers end up being on the "deadly catch" show on the discovery channel.
i plan on continuing my education even after i finish college, enter the navy and go NSW. I definitly want to get some kind of business stuff under my belt. i just have no idea whats ahead for me..

I don't know what to tell you. You have to combine your interests, both present and future, with some practicality for the future. I know alot of ex-classmates who major'd in some bullsh!t field and now they're the most educated bartender's in the world. I'm a liberal arts major with a minor in english, not real exciting but I'm trying to lay the foundation to get into a decent lawschool. Who the hell knows, I might end up as a bartender myself.
