That looks like a laser system of sorts. Possibly MILES gear.

yep...definitely MILES gear. they use the MI-24 as OPFOR "red air" asset in training at places like NTC. basicly same thing as seen on the flash suppressor of M-16s, SAWs, etc. in training ex's.

Does anyone know about the performance of MI 24 in OPFOR. How does they fare against US Gunships.

For the most part, there really aren't too many "ship on ship" helo attacks especially since the fleet of OPFOR aircraft is relatively small.

The Hind is used in its primary role as a ground attack helicopter. Tends to chew the crap out of ground forces.

The transport helos are used to emplace OPFOR troops during the various stages of the exercise.
