Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, Ariz. (Feb.4, 2004) – P-3 Orion patrol aircraft sit in storage at the Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Center (AMARC), located at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (AFB) in Tucson, Ariz. Davis-Monthan AFB was selected as the site for the storage center due to Tucson’s meager rainfall, low humidity, and alkaline soil. These conditions make it possible to store aircraft indefinitely with a minimum of deterioration and corrosion. In addition, the soil (called caliche) is hard, making it possible to park aircraft in the desert without constructing concrete or steel parking ramps. AMARC is responsible for the storage and maintaining of aircraft for future redeployment, parts, or proper disposal following retirement by the military. Well since we are reposting from yesterday, ill just repost as well from another thread and Ill just add a little info as well :D

The Core Avionics of the F-16I Airplane - Based on an Israeli Development by the Israel Air Force

The F-16I, (or Sufa by its Hebrew name) aircraft, an enhanced version of the F-16, is produced by the American company "Lockheed Martin," and is one of the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world. It will become the leading aircraft of the IAF within the coming years. The F-16I represents a dramatic increase in operational capabilities; this is due to the advanced and varied combat systems that were integrated into the F-16I.
One of the unique attributes of the F-16I is that it is the first American fighter aircraft which has core avionics based upon an Israeli program developed written by the IAF computer unit.

This unit is also responsible for the integration of combat systems within the aircraft, like for example; the weapons system, which is designed to launch AMRAAM missiles via a sophisticated radar, the attack and navigational systems, satellite communication and anti-missile electronic warfare systems. Israelis also developed the Python 5 air-to-air heat-seeking missile, which is a development of Rafael, and an improved pilot's helmet with a number of sophisticated systems including a night vision system.
Something else that makes this project unique is the aerial table trainer. This allows the pilots of the F-16I to practice operating the aircraft without using a real expensive airplane, and without a full and expensive flight simulator. This also allows for better accessibility.

The Sufa has been customized with new avionic technologies, internally mounted FLIR (forward looking infrared) viewers, and cutting edge weapon system hardware provided by the Israeli defense company Lahav - a division of Israel Aircraft Industries.

The Lahav technology will allow for simultaneous, multi-target air-to-air engagement and increased standoff and survivability capabilities. The F-16I has been earmarked to receive the new Python 5 imaging infrared-guided high agility air-to-air missile produced by Rafael, the former Israeli Armaments Development Authority. Israeli companies equip new jet

According to a Globes report, the other Israeli subcontracting companies participating in the F-16I's reciprocal procurement program are:

Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) makes wings, tail sections, inline fuel tanks, satellite communications systems, and tactical data communications systems.

Elbit Systems makes the head-up display (HUD), helmet display, mission computer, presentation computer and digital map, elevators, ailerons, fuselage stabilizers, and doors.

Rafael makes the avionics suit, ground following algorithm software, and communications equipment.

Elisra Electronic Systems makes the defense suit against radar locking, radar-guided and heat-seeking missiles.

BAE Systems Rokar International makes external heat dissipaters and flares.

Rada Electronic Industries makes ground debriefing systems.

Radar is American, not Israeli
Israeli Air Force officials are "frustrated" over the Defense Ministry's agreeing to allow the F-16I jets to be equipped with American-made radar, Middle East Newsline reported.

Northrop Grumman's AN/APG-68(V)9 multimode radar will enable crews to detect airborne threats from a range 30% greater than the existing APG-69 system and adds a synthetic-aperture radar mode for high-resolution ground mapping.

Military sources said an evaluation by Israeli Air Force pilots of the U.S. radar showed it to be inferior to an indigenous Israeli radar designed by Elta Electronic Industries, Middle East Newsline reported.

There is much more, but all of it is classified ;)

I thought that the name "Sufa" was used for the Isreali jeep or the small truck that they use in the territories, can anyone confirm this?
