Montreal — A Canadian-born U.S. soldier was among the 12 passengers killed when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed in northern Iraq over the weekend. The CBC's Fench-language service reports that David DeMoores, 36, left Canada several years ago to live with his girlfriend in the United States.
The couple later married and had three children.
Mr. DeMoores, a native of Aylmer, Que., gave up his Canadian citizenship when he decided to join the American army in order to support his growing family, Radio-Canada reported Wednesday.

They have the status of dual citizenship.

Native Americans both from Canada or from the U.S. can join either of the armed forces as they have native status which allows them to travel freely between both countries, giving them rights to both of the countries.

Cool! We would be more than happy to see you in the US Army. However I think you will see Canada's army become much more than the liberal minded "peace keeping force" under Rick Hillier!

To all the Canadians on this from: CAN WE PLEASE BORROW HILLIER?? IT WOULD BE NICE FOR A MAN LIKE HILLIER TO LEAD US!!!

The highest number of Canadian citizens that faught for the US in Veitnam was 50,000. The highest number of Canadian citizens that died while under the US flag there though was only 110

Actually, the comment regarding indigenous peoples is not 100% correct. It actually depends on the particular treaty that their band signed. In alberta we have large groups of Blackfoot, blood and piegan. These groups were split by the canadain, us boarder, so their treaties allow them access to both natuions, although im sure its not quite as easy as it sounds. But, indigenous nations that didnt have original land in both nations dont have these liberties, for instance, many cree bands, mic-mac, Caribou Inuit, Sarcee, morley, Haida, and probably a few more.

the man who died, i feel sorry for his family.i think he did what was right. he moved to a new nation, and chose it as his home. As it was his home he joined up, so good for him. But, as for canadians just deciding to join a foreign military, i think you are wrong. You should enlist in your military, and help your homeland, not someone elses.

Cheers,
Paul

I think you need to talk to some of us that actually do the job in the Canadian Forces and stop basing your opinion on what you hear or read in the pathetic liberal media.

If you want to turn your back on the country that has provided you shelter and protection and a home for all your years then feel free to go. I don't want you in the trench next to me anyway. My fellow soldiers and I are peole that belive in this country and it's citizens and we stand up for it and them every single day. Maybe you should think about where your loyalties are.

Here endith the rant...V.V.V.

Realy? Try telling the canucks in Kandahar that are about to go hunting that their part in the war on terrorism is boring. Or for that matter try telling me that my first tour of duty in the war on terrorism was boring. There are members of the Canadian Forces doing sh!t that you will never know about right beside the baddest US sf troops. Canadian soldiers die in this war on terror bonehead and you might want to show the soldiers on the line the resect they deserve. I don't give a rats a$$ what you think of me but my friends are in the hills around Kandahar risking it all .Considering that you cant decide wheather or not to vote for a party that wants to leave our country I guess your opinion really does'nt matter. From the sounds of things your worry is that if you join the Canadian Forces you might not get to shoot anyone. Go back to fanasizing your GI Joe life in mommy's basement son. Maybe one day when your old enough you can stand up beside us.

BTW; Miserable??? hell no. I have the greatest job in the world and I love every second of it.

We're all on the same side, so I see nothing wrong with a Canadian joining the US Military. I tried to do it, but I had some issues with INS; an my dad did it in the '60s an fought in Vietnam(as did many other Canadians).

psycho+logical, shut up you ignorant kid. Read some books, newspapers, etc
Canadians have fought an died in Afghanistan, aswell as many other conflicts since our country was formed.

Never try to belittle anyones service with your ignorant comments kid.

Want to tell a Canadian Solder that what they are doing overseas is insignificant an not worth anything? Go over to CFB Shilo an tell that to my brother an every other soldier there who has deployed an is deploying again to Afghanistan to conduct Combat Operations under OEF.

The thing is, that by you joinging the yanks there is no benefit to yoiur nation. I dont beleieve that most modern, and professional soldiers join up to kill people, and be some superman. I think most people, or a lot of people join cause of a sense of duty, and away to help their nation.

I stand by my original comment. If you wantto help out, then join the canadian army. There is plenty of work for the canadian soldier, and your contribution to civilization would be felt in the canadian military.

Im english by birth and rearing. I moved to canada at 16. When i was done high school all i knew was that i wanted to be in the infantry. I could have flown to england, and enlisted. But, at the time canada was my home, so i choose to join up and help out my home. I urge anyone to do the same thing.

Cheers,
paul
