Given the events recently surounding Hati I though it was approporiate to post some pics of Grom in Hati back in 1994. This was if Im not mistaken Groms first over seas mission (Operation Restore Democracy). These pics are pretty old (about 10 years old) but still kinda interesting.

President Putin practicises Judo, L.Drewniak (ex second in command in GROM) - shotokan karate (his brother Andrzej kyokushinkai karate ;) ) . Im not sure if those dan's/ranks are comparable...
Anyway that photo along with some of Vityaz selection ones gave me an idea for some new topic...

Probably, Polish president is kinda fat, but powerful. However, both Putin and Kwasniewski got nothing on Gerhard Shorader, that guys a bear, he's huge! If anyone can challenge Putin its Shorader, he'll give Putin a run for his money.

That's pretty cool actually.
I don't think I could see Prez Bush, or PM Paul Martin doing something like that.

Im told this guy (Generał Sławomir Petelicki) is the Polish James Bond. He was also the first commander of Grom in the early 90s. Im not sure if this pic below was taken in Hati or not, but whatever.

If Im not mistaken, he led a Polish team of agents or military unit to rescue captured American CIA agents back in the early 90s.

AFAIK Putin has 6 dan
I don't know how it works in judo but in most good karate styles and clubs to achieve very high levels - 7,8,9 dan you must deserve it but not by passing exam (or not only by that) but rather doing something important for your style or organization. 10th dan is usually reserved for creators and heads of styles (title of Soke).

gen. Sławomir Petelicki (retired) before forming of GROM in 1991 was officer responsible for security of Polish embassies in Middle East. Suppose the photo could be taken then (he didn't change his looks much last 13 years ;) ). In 1991 GROM was formed to prevent terroristic attacks that formed up as a reality since Poland agreed to provide free transit for russian Jews heading for Israel. Thus minister of internal affairs Krzysztof Kozłowski ordered forming and training of such a unit using SAS model - gen. Petelicki was to become first commander of new unit.
