I saw this movie yesterday, and it is quite impressive even if you dont understand the language. The combat scenes were very brutal and genuine looking. If you dont have any russian video stores to buy the tape/dvd at, you can try downloading it from edonkey.
As for those who saw it, your opinions and views would be appreciated.

Hehe, well since the movie is covering a battle as opposed to politics, it really doesnt matter what the actors say, since nothing is crucial to the "storyline" due to lack thereof.
One unrealistic part about the movie to me was that "glavrach" (Doctor supervisor, and the chechen warlord) didnt seem to look like someone who finished A medical school. He looked like a typical mafia hitman/mercenary etc... :)

In USSR many ppl from Caucasus region was learned in medical universitets and became a doctors. Good doctors i would say. Almost all of them looked like your stereotype assumes. :)

Guess I have to Install edonkey. I've wanted to see this movie for a long time. Everyone has been talkin' about it so I guess I have no other altenative than to put my bandwith into good use for the night ;)

Damn you Russians, You've been making too much interesting movies and even living next to you doesn't make it any easier to obtain them. Maybe next time I'm visiting my girl's summer place some 500-1000m from the border I'll pay a visit to Mother Russia and try to find movies like "voina" etc p-)

Be prepared, russian movies is different to hollywood. No "saving world bullsh#t", no happy end as necessarily end, no pathetic dialogs (usualy) and no "one shot - one kill" whis machinegan :)
However its nice to see, someone who not claming anythig russian as crap :)

And again, i must say sorry for mockery on english language (dont have practice enuf)

Well to be fair there are some decent military hollywood movies as well.
I thought Rules of Engagement was a nice one, and Black Hawk Down isnt bad either in my opinion.

BTW, I noticed that Boris Berezovsky sponsored the movie, and yet the movie was patriotic and pro-russian.
What gives?

1. Yeah, Black Hawk Down is not typical hollywood movie. I didnt meat all us movies bad. No way. I just meant typical...you know. For exaple "Sniper 2"...Blahhhhhh makes me sick. Or (dont remember exactly). Bruce Willis...Africa...rescuing mission. Just good exaple of BAD movie

2. Who told you that Berezovsky is not patriot?

Yeah,
Usually you can watch the Hollywood movies at least once, and many of them are so good that you can watch the countless times, but Black Hawk Down is so boring, and full or crappy actors and crap itself that i could not watch it even once.

Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers on the other hand.. any time, any where.. cause they are good.. (well at least well made and with good actors..) :)

If you want to a great war movie, than I have to make it myself.

This is my ultimate goal in life actually. I'm trying to get money to make a feature about Chechen wars.

Think about Saving Private Ryan meets Full Metal Jacket of CHECHNYA.

I'm working on the screen play for a story I've been writing for a while.

The sad thing is, always the money..

I have the best connection in the Russian military, they are willing to provide tanks, light armor, airforce, soldiers (extras), weapons, and anything that explodes. All that with the best discount on the planet.

Hopefully one day.

Ah, now i see. There is no direct communication between patriotism and support (or not) war in checnya.
Do you think i support war in chechnya? No, no way! Do i support our troops? Hell yeah!
