AR RAMADI, Iraq - During the last 24 hours, Task Force All American conducted 249 patrols, including 15 joint patrols, and executed cordon and searches in Musayyib and Uwaylim. Iraqi Civil Defense Corps forces also conducted 17 independent patrols.

Soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division had two contacts with the enemy that consisted of an improvised explosive device attack and a direct fire engagement. Soldiers discovered and disarmed five IEDs before they could be detonated, captured 16 enemy personnel, and sustained one U.S. wounded. A corps transportation company traveling through the area was also struck by an IED and sustained two wounded.

Coalition forces denied entry to 25 personnel and 25 vehicles at Husaybah, 130 personnel and 55 vehicles at Tanif, and 61 personnel and 51 vehicles at Trebil, all because they lacked passports.

Today Coalition forces released four detainees as part of the Conditional Release Program. To date, the Coalition has released 81 detainees from Abu Ghurayb Prison.

At approximately 2 a.m. Feb. 19, soldiers conducted a cordon and search in Musayyib to kill or capture Kassim Hellal and Achmed Hellal. The operation resulted in the capture of four enemy personnel, including both primary targets. Also confiscated during the mission were two AK-47s, one pistol, wire, electrical equipment, timing devices, and anti-Coalition propaganda.

At approximately 3 a.m. Feb. 19, paratroopers conducted a series of three cordon and searches and two search and attacks near Uwaylim to kill or capture members of two anti-Coalition cells operating in the area. The operation resulted in the capture of 10 enemy personnel, including six targeted individuals. Also confiscated during the mission were 35 57 mm rockets, 13 Sagger missiles, two complete 60 mm mortar systems, seven rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 56 RPG rounds, and more than 35,000 rounds of ammunition.

A trash removal program was activated with the public works manager of Iskandariyah. The program involves removing trash from the sides of Highways 8 and 9, and collecting full trash bags from city residents. This program will begin March 1 and will employ approximately 200 people. Civil affairs teams with 3rd Brigade will assist in the effort.

Civil affairs teams with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment continue to work with incoming Marines to facilitate a smooth transition of operations during troop rotations. On Feb. 19, they attended the Hit city council meeting to meet local Iraqi leaders and observe current governmental processes.

The ICDC and Task Force All American will continue to conduct operations in the Al Anbar province to improve the safety and security of the province and Iraq.

Who says? I'm sure they could find some creative way to turn it into an IED or some type of bomb.

not good for IED's as they are MISSILES which tend to fly, besides they are Wire guided, they need a link between them and the posts.
Better off with Arty shells as these can be detonated in place and have no rocket motor to propel them!

Why turn a perfectly good MRATGW into an IED,it makes no sense at all

Feel free Haiw, feel free.

If they were "live" Argyll it could become performance art. ;)

If I am not wrong missles must have an explosive warhead, take the explosives out and you can use them to make a bomb. Maybe not a very big one but they also have plenty of missles. Throw a couple of nails into the mix and you have one nasty weapon.

The amount of explosive in a missile is not really that much, certainly it has some, but it uses things such as Kinetic energy to great effect, also most AT warheads are HEAT(High Explosive Anti Tank),which means when they come into contact with the target a hole is punctured in the target ,molten white hot metal at over 500 degrees(cannot remember the exact temp)enter the vehicle and causes a chain reaction, such as incineretion of crew, detonation of Ammo, ignition of fuel etc!

Like I said why waste a missile that has an effective range of over 1000m,that would cause more damage to an AFV than ,stripping it down, melting the HE inside the warhead, and placing it into another container to make a bomb? The expertise to strip warheads of HE I doubt is there within the Iraqi insurgents.

Again an Anti Tank weapon /missile is a stand off weapon designed to give the operator a chance to survive,in combat situations.Again why use a pretty sophisticated Missile compare to that of an RPG 7 to try and make a roadside IED,ask yourself why they would attempt to do this instead of attacking the targets with RPG's.

To be perfectly honest with you Gary, you stand a better chance of making an IED with 4 hand grenades and a means to detonate it,than trying to make an IED with a Sagger Anti Tank Missile!!

Believe it or not Gary Most guys who have served in the Province(NI) have extensive knowledge about IED's,I happen to have been pretty close to one that went off one night.

IED's are usually command wire detonated, usually electrically, and can be made up pretty simply,it is RCIED(Remote/Radio Controled) that are more a danger,as they have no command wires(The Radio ones)and it is pretty hard to spot their Antennae.
IED can also be set off by other means such as trip wires, timing switches, pressure pads, tilt switches light, sensitive switches, one thing they all need is a detonator, you can burn semtex etc and PE4 it will not explode, but stick a detonator and detcord on it and ........boom!!

Other tricks include Gas cans filled with nails and scrap metal ,plus some home made Napalm also makes for a real ****ty day, these guys are only just learning their trade, and they will get better and more sophisticated as long as they have a goal and a target
