Okay i have a question. I own a USP40 fullsize and have been told that i can fire 9mm rounds from it simply by swapping out the barrels because of the modularity of the design. Is this true and if so will i need new mags (shouldnt as 9mm should fit into my .40 mags)?

Calibre exchange between 9 mm x 19 and .40 S & W possible by replacing slides, barrels and magazines

So no, not only the barrel. But maybe you can use the .40 mags for 9mm, the other way around it shouldnt be possible.

The "modularity of the design" remark is rather aimed at the nine different trigger and safety variants.

The modular design of the USP enables an individual adaptation of safety and trigger mechanisms to any requirement.

okay thanks. Barrels arent difficult to find. id loathe having to deal with HK customer service for a new slide though...

I believe the 9mm barrel is a smaller OD than the 40 barrel so as was stated above you'll need a new slide as well.

I've used 9mm in 40 mags without a problem.

I have try this with a Glock..

I have a Glock 35 which I use a Bar-Sto 9mm barrel and a Glock 17 magazine and I was able to shoot 9mm out of my Glock35 reliablely and safely.

the 40 SW extractor on the Glock 35 moves over enough to catch the rim on the 9mm and retain the casing in the breech face.

I am not sure if this can be done with a HK USP... something to experiement...but for sure you will need a new barrel and magazine.

You'll need a barrel and a slide, the mags should work just fine (at least they do in compacts). Sadly HK won't sell you a slide, so you have to find one on one of the gunboards or auction sites that hopefully doesn't come from a KB'd gun.

You would need a barrel and slide. The 9mm slide is a 40 with some weight removed. It is done under the firing pin. You can use 40 mags as 9 mags, but I do not think you can go the other way.

When it comes down to it, magazines are $10 at CDNN and a complete frame only cost about $100. so the other $400 is in the slide and barrel. You would be better off buying a new pistol.

yeah, was just interested in how practicle it would have been. Soon as 'new slide' came up i pretty much lost hope in the idea. finding more 13 round mags for my .40 is a pain in the arse though
