My third. One provincial and two federal. Voting is a responsibility, so all Canadians should do it. Minus prisoners of course.

Why shouldn't prisoners vote?
Because they have broken the law and are subject to having certain rights taken away while they are serving their sentence. The right to vote should be one of those rights.

A fine example of what needs to be done here. We are too soft on our convicted criminals.

Is it only those serving a prison time that can't vote? Or all that break the law? Plenty of people break the law and never go to jail. DUI's etc
Not that I really care if they vote or not (I doubt criminals usually have a high turn-out anyway) but I wonder what the reasoning is behind this.

Well all criminals in Canada have a right to vote (even the elected ones).
What I was talking about is taking away prisoners' right to vote. So that would mean all convicted criminals who are incarcerated. This would apply for the time they are in prison.
That is what the conservative party wants to do, and as a result the prisons have had a high turnout of voters making their mark for the liberals. Who by the way will continue to allow them to vote, as well as have their own TVs, and shorter sentences in general.
On another note just to clear something up, a person with a DUI isn't a criminal here. That law is not part of the Criminal Code. It is part of the Highway Safety Act and is considered a provincial offence. So obviously I was talking about people who break the law and go to jail for a criminal offence.

The Green Party however are pacifist vegan druid psychopaths. If they were elected our country would be destroyed. They want to ban ALL froms of motorized transportation including: Airplanes, boats, trains, streetcars, busses, cars, trucks etc etc etc..... and replace them all with Bicycles and other forms of non motorized transportation.

That actually isn't in their platform. Not that I am voting Green. But lets get some facts straight. They are completely onboard for bringing in alternative fuel vehicles or alternative engine vehicles. Although their policies are too costly and not the right approach to a cleaner society, in my view.

Of course it isn't entirely their platform but that's what the Green Party member in my ward told me during the last election. It just so happens that she also had no idea what the hell was going on in Israel and decided to side with the Palestinians saying Israel was an illegal occupying force and sh*t like that. Conservatives = to right wing. no doubt will become corrupt and crap.
Basiclly both major parties are garbage. It will be amusing to see how this election works out, beacause i dont believe that either party is going to have enough seats to really do much at parliment. Basiclly the results of this election will create a stagnate government.
I wish i could vote for the Bloc Quebecois in alberta... But, i will likely be voting green, at least then i can bitch about whoever takes power, and my voice of mistrust in both of the big parties will be register

she isn't actually, I just checked, there is a new guy named Patrick Metzger. Probably a fool. I helped campaign for the Conservative candidate in my ward, Eglinton Lawrence. His name was Burnie Tanz, I thought he was cool at first, but he just couldn't answer a damn question at any of the debates.

i tend to believe that the majority of the worlds political parties are dodgy. yep, the liberals had their scandel, but if the conservatives take power they will have one two its the nature of politics i think.
Since i have been in canada there has been a nice balance in alberta. We have the conservativves in power at the provicial level, and liberals at the federal level. I thoughtit helped keep a balanced political environment in alberta. Im concerned about an all out conservative alberta though.
I know in england that the conservatives did alot of damage to the social system in england, and i can see it happeneing here. It would be a total disaster.

We are not England. Why do people keep comparing the Canadian conservatives to that of other countries? Besides that, the conservatives can't be any worse than the liberals. I think we at least need to give them a chance.
The liberals have slowly tried to dismantle our military, blown billions of dollars on ridiculous ideas like the gun registry, billions more sits in surplus when it could go back to the provinces to pay for more of their social programs (or, dare I say it, the military?), and of course the sponsorship scandal. They've had their chance, now it's time to give someone else a try. It seems ludicrous to me not to vote for a particular party because they MIGHT be corrupt. Using the "every government is corrupt" line is just a poor excuse not to accept change at a time when it is needed.
I'm not saying that the conversatives are some divine, infallible party, but we at least need to give them a shot. At least they aren't corrupt yet.

Here it's always sundays, so people have plenty of time.
Here it is always Saturdays. Makes for an interesting election when politicians get interviewed about the counting and they are clearly hammered.
The main political parties here are
Australian Labor Party (Socialist, generally liberal but they were largely responsible for Australia's economic growth)
Liberal Party (The Irony of it all. right wing nutjobs. No major reform policies. god knows why they have managed to stay in power actually have to rule via coalition)
National Party (A part full of irony. Socially conservative. But they favour trade protections to protecr farmers, generally dislike privatisation of services ect. For some reason they have supported the Liberals)
Greens (Typical green party I guess. But Australian greens are not to bad actually. They actually have a pretty decent platform. The current leader wanted Australia to send troops to Aceh and do the same thing we done in Timor)
In terms of which party is the biggest. The ALP generally gets the most votes in elections. But because of the way Australia is set up. Loses out to a coalition.

We have voted on different days in the past...usually on weekdays. Basically federal law states that if you are at work during the entore time the polling stations are open, your empolyer HAS to give you time off to go and vote. If the employer does not then they can be charged with a criminal offence.

Dude you're partly right but still that seems very far fetched. Yes the conservative leader, Stephen Harper, is more close to Bush than our last Prime Minister was, but he isn't a Bush bussom buddy. He will revisit the deffinition of marriage, mainly because last time around there wasn't a free vote. Because the Liberal party whiped its caucas into voting for it. This time around there will be a free vote in the house, but that does not mean that the bill will pass.
He has also said and put in his platform that he will not reopen the abortion issue and he will certainly not send us to Iraq. Our forces are getting more and more heavily engaged in Afghanistan and cannot contribute to Iraq in any large numbers. Yes he was originally for going to Iraq, but things have changed. And he knows that the majority of the populace would not support that action.
All these points are in the Conservative party's platform. You can find it at www.conservative.ca
