Homeowner fights back against intruders

Police say three men forced their way into the unit at the apartment complex on West Tidwell near West Sun Forest. The armed men demanded money.

The victim first tried to stop the men with a steak knife. The suspects then grabbed the homeowner's 12-month-old daughter and threw her down the stairs. Fortunately, the toddler is OK.

One suspect pulled a gun, but the victim was able to get it away from him and shot him. Then the suspect pulled a second gun. The homeowner got it away from him and shot him again, this time killing him. Police say the other two men fled the scene.

"The two suspects are known to the complainant," said Officer Philip Yochum with the Houston Police Department. "The dead man is not known to the complainant. They left the scene before police arrived."

Investigators say the victim knew the two suspects who got away and that both the victim and suspects are Katrina evacuees. Police aren't sure if the dead suspect is an evacuee as well.

its true, crime rates moved up in cities that took in refugees and are still housing them like Houston, Dallas, San Antonio. I have many relatives in Houston and one of them lives by the Astrodome , she reported that the crime rate went way up since the people who where living in the astrodome are now ,mostly housed in appartment complexes nearby.

Its know suprise to me that crime rates have gone up in places where evacuees were taken in large concentration because New Orleons itself had one of the highest murder rates in the country just because the criminals were moved dosnt mean they will stop there ways,By the way many of the evacuees are decent people im sure but this was bound to happen.

I cant wait to hear that the crime rate is a result of the fema and the hurricane. lol

Perhaps he didn't have your psychic powers and couldn't see inside the minds of armed men who'd entered his home and threatened him to know that if he did what they wanted they wouldn't hurt him or his child. Perhaps he thought that when armed men break into your home and threaten you, they're not likely to be trustworthy, reasonable people who will do exactly what they say and not hurt you if you just go along with their wishes.
After all, armed robbers that threaten your life can be trusted to keep their word, right? It's not like they're criminals or anything.

Considering the criminals were known to the suspect, had guns & threw the guy's daughter down the stairs; might they not have already decided that they were quite prepared to "remove" any witness?
