Visiting card

Gordeev Aleksey Nikolaevich. Born on April 29, 1953, village Solonovka, Altayskiy region. In 1970, entered The Soviet Union Marshal I.S.Konev All-troops command College in Alma-Ata. Served as Reconnaissance motor cycle platoon Commander, Reconnaissance regiment Commander in the structure of the Soviet troops group in Germany. Then served in Dalnevostochnyj region where he was Independent Reconnaissance battalion staff Commander. After graduating from M.V.Frunze Academy served in Pribaltiyskiy military region as Motor shooting regiment Commander. Participated in operations in Afghanistan where he was Motor shooting second in command. After troops withdraw from the republic served as Staff Commander and then Commander of Motor shooting regiment. In 1989, after the troops withdraw from the Baltic became Coast Troops Commander of division Staff, which was included in the Russian Federation Navy structure. After its reformation came to the North fleet and was Coast troop's deputy chief. From September 2000, is North Fleet Coast troops Commander.

Question: What are the main operations conducted by the North fleet marines according to the training plan in 2005?

Aleksey Gordeev: The North fleet marines are represented by the brigade which is deployed in village Sputnik. During the last three years, the training plan is nearly 100% fulfilled by us. We managed to cope with all missions this year as well. As usual, combat training was a life-of-communication training. In the first stage, individual training for every soldier, then training in the group of squads and platoons. Then comes training in the regiment, battalion and brigade structure. Regimental tactical shooting training was to crown it all. Everything was conducted at the highest level. This year battalion tactical shooting training and combat operations took place at Sredniy peninsula.

Staff Command trainings were conducted for military staff and formations. (...)

The marines' soldiers worked at marine paratrooping special skills: landing, disembarkation, shooting from the ship's dock at air and land targets.

As for airborne training, the training plan is only 60-70% fulfilled. The level of airborne training remains the same over three years owing to circumstances beyond our control. And still we have progress. There were cases when the plan was only 10-15% fulfilled by the marines' soldiers. Sometimes even without parachute jumping.

This year we were inspected by the Russian Federation Armed Forces Rear. The marines fulfilled all missions. The state of the brigade's rear is excellent.

Question: What other event marked this year? Time amends practically all spheres of the training activity at the fleet...

Aleksey Gordeev: We worked on the new mission concerning anti-terrorist training and perfected it. We conducted a number of special training operations. For example, our formations participated in the North fleet anti-terrorist reserve operations. We conducted trainings at Severomorsk-1 airfield, cooperation with troops at submarines bases. (...)

Question: What is the contemporary state of military machines and equipment of the North fleet marines?

Aleksey Gordeev: If you asked me earlier I would have called it rather problematic. But the brigade managed to do a lot to maintain machines on the high alertness level. We have enough spare parts to maintain what we have now. Financing has been improved greatly. Engineering armored and communication subdivisions have succeeded this year. We are waiting for new BTR-80 complexes to arrive. They have been on deposit but are in a good state.

Question: Are you expecting more modern machines and equipment?

Aleksey Gordeev: Yes, we are expecting new ones. For example, BTR-90 will be supplied. We will get artillery systems "Vena" instead of "Nona" systems. Each battalion is going to have one type of an artillery mount. We'll be able to distribute them due to the principle of joint armament. We are also expecting modernized MTL (armored retrievers), which will be supplied with 30-millimeter guns besides the machine-guns they have now.

We will get new shooting systems as well.

Question: The reformation of airborne assault battalion has successfully been fulfilled this year. Tell us about its process and problems connected with the new structure of the airborne assault battalion.

Aleksey Gordeev: We managed to finish recruitment of contract-soldiers for the airborne assault battalion by September 1. Notwithstanding certain pessimistic views, we had plenty of soldiers. (...)

As for airborne assault battalion in its new form, the process of making a really professional subdivision only begins. At the present moment we need to perfect training.

(...)

Question: Major-General, what is the training plan for the North fleet marines in 2006? Do your words mean that new methods of staff training will appear?

Aleksey Gordeev: Basically, all the operations conducted in 2005, will be present in 2006. Tactical training for the regiment and battalion. Field training. Artillerists and tankmen will participate in them. Next year we plan to send a marine aircraft missile battalion to the State Eyskiy grounds. Once in two years our marines' soldiers demonstrate there their professionalism and with great success recently.

As for the new methods... There will be some of them. However, we plan to apply them to contract-soldiers in 2007. So far, the airborne assault battalion will be trained. The professionalism level of its soldiers should be high.

Question: What role will operational experience of the marines play?

Aleksey Gordeev: The experience is the basis for many essential things. For example, a new course of shooting conducted last year. We have approved it. I would like to stress the role of the officers who participated in operations in the North Caucasus. There are plenty in the brigade. A man who has experience in operations in the Chechen Republic knows well how to win and what one should do to remain alive. They are very serious about staff training.

Question: What subdivisions and people have impressed you most of all?

Aleksey Gordeev: the North fleet airborne assault battalion 867 under command of Lieutenant Colonel Radik Lasynov got the best results in the North fleet units training. I would also mark reconnaissance battalion under command of Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Mager and artillery division under command of Lieutenant Colonel Mikhail Lagoda.
