More info', from The Encyclopedia Of Tanks And Armoured Fighting Vehicles (ISBN: 1-86227-188-7)...

Armament: Two 7.62mm MGs
Armour: Classified
Crew: 1 plus 10
Dimensions: Length 5.1m; Width 2.05m; Height 2.995m
Weight: 6140kg
Powerplant: Mercedes-Benz OM-352 diesel, 93kW (125bhp) at 2800rpm
Speed: 96km/h (60mph)
Range: 1000km (620 miles)

The Buffel (4 x 4) armoured personnel carrier was developed for use in Southern Africa, especially South West Africa (today Namibia) where there was a very high threat from powerful antitank mines, especially the Russian TM-46. To reduce operating and support costs, the proven Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG (4 x 4) chassis was used.

The driver was seated at the front left in an armour-protected compartment with bulletproof windows to his front and sides. Below his positions was the diesel engine coupled to a manual transmission. The troop compartment at the rear was V-shaped so any mine blast was directed upwards. The troop compartment had drop sides and an open roof with the 10 troops being seated five down each side on individual seats provided with seat belts.

The sides of the vehicle could be rapidaly lowered to allow for rapid exit of the troops. Pintle-mounted machine guns were normally fitted, often in pairs.

If this guy is any indication of the strength of Aristide's police in port au prince then the rebels won't roll through the capital like they have the rest of the country.

He looks looks pretty well equipped and disciplined. Maybe the capital is better protected than the rest of the country.

I think this dude and his 50cal have a few things to say about a bunch of ragtag amateurs with their m-1s and catchers pads.

Cool...I didn't know the rebels were ex-military. I'll have to read up on it more.

Yeah the palestinian looked like a big ass threat. Hopefully the
idiot hitting him will get run over or killed in a suicide attack.

I'm getting used to mustamatos comments... He is a sort of scandinavian answer to Permskii in terms of being "quarrel-ready". Speaking from my own experience, I had a chance to - lets say participate - in similiar street brawls with rioting crowd and I see nothing unusual in this picture... Batons in work as usual - would you like to give riot gear to Palestinians and make it a equal battle? I just dont think Israelis were unprovoked - some stones, molotovs usually do the trick.

Gotta give it to the Palestinians for not using arms or extreme violence. Also look how they get their asses beat by the Israeli soldiers. That takes some balls.. or stupidity.

So now you are a big fan of a "eye for an eye" theory? Even if the police used unnecessary much violence, it doesen't mean that he deserves to have a dramatic death.

@Javehn. Grow up. Calling people for gays is childish, I used to do it when I was 13-14 years old myself, but I guess you are older now. I believe if
I started to call people "jew" as you are calling people "gay", you would be insulted, right?

Anyone know the name of that vehicle?

Buffel APC (South Africa)

Yes, thats right - the Buffel. Amazingly effective troop carrier for African conditions. Not very comfortable, though :)
