Bingo! Here's your money.

Here's a link to some info. on these amazing kids. They were arrested for handing out anti-Nazi literature and executed after a brief show trial.

"One day, February 18, 1943, Hans' and Sophie's luck ran out. They were caught leaving pamphlets at the University of Munich and were arrested. A search disclosed evidence of Christoph Probst's participation, and he too was soon arrested. The three of them were indicted for treason......Sophie was then led to the guillotine. One observer described her as she walked to her death: “Without turning a hair, without flinching.” Christoph Probst was next. Hans Scholl was last; just before he was beheaded, Hans cried out: “Long live freedom!”"

Ok it's already done. (l t. r)
Hans Scholl, Sophie Scholl, Christoph Probst

I recommend this film. http://www.sophiescholl-derfilm.de/
It's based of original interrogation protocols that were just revealed in 1990 after the fall of the wall.
It's more of a precise documentary then big entertainment, but worth seeing. Oscar contender for best foreign film this year, which isn't so important though. It's very chilling, especially when they face the Guillotine in the end. even the film Guillotine was a real german model. You know that it all happened like that because the Nazis had precise protocols about those cases. Really frightening. If you see it: The judge is not over done. He was more of an evil actor in real life then in the film. Roland Freisler.

Every german kid (should) know them. Every city has a school named after them. I thought they were better known abroad.

yes and no and no
Why yes and no and no? Those three were all germans. Another member Alexander Schmorell was born in russia, but basicly german, too.

Another info: In the third Reich (1933-1945) about 16650 people were sentenced to death in "regular" courts (12.000 carried out) and another 20.000 by court martial.
Most sentences were done by the Guillotine. Mass executions often by hanging in some cases with clamp straps to multiply the suffering. The numbers only include sentences in germany. The random hangings and shootings in every occupied country and later germany are not included. And of course not the crimes of the holocaust in general.
