HEADLINE: Combat training to enhance in Russian Air Force next year - commander

A total of over 400 various combat training events are scheduled for 2006 in the Russian Air Force, Army General Vladimir Mikhailov, Air Force commander-in-chief, told Interfax- Military News Agency on Thursday.
Mikhailov pointed out that about 150 tactical exercises will be organized for air defense forces and electronic warfare units, with 90% of missile regiments to receive live firing practice.
According to him, all the exercises with air force units will see live firing against both aerial and ground targets.
In addition to its own training activities, the Air Force will take part in command-post exercises of the Land Forces, Navy, some military branches, which are planned both in the CIS and outside it.
"The Air Force combat training will be significantly enhanced next year as compared with 2005. We will concentrate on training young specialists," Mikhailov said.
He added that about 40 events aimed at strengthening the air borders of the CIS are slated for 2006 in the framework of the CIS Unified Air Defense System.
"Search and rescue and parachuting branches of the Air Force will hold about a dozen large-scale exercises, including one aimed at pilots' survival in extreme conditions," he said.
According to him, 36 inspection flights are also in plans for next year in the framework of the Open Skies Treaty. In return, foreign inspectors will perform 36 flights over the territories of Russia and Belarus.
Russian Knights, Swifts, Golden Eagles and Hawks of Russia display teams of the Russian Air Force will take part in more than 100 aerobatics shows next year.
