Yeah, that was pathetic. It almost looked staged.
Fancy roundhouse kicks like that just donīt work in real fights.

it seems to be the difference of experience that makes all the difference. The TKD guy looks like hes been at it for years, and the MT guy looks like hes been at it for at most a month.

I'm amazed some of those kicks actually worked. Of course that was a high-light tape, so I'm sure there were many more that didn't work. Notice how as soon as the TKD fighter got in close all he could do was wrap his arms around the opponent and hope the ref seperates them? His system of fighting is reliant on kicks.
Good for discipline? Sure. Good for developing technique? Sure. Look good in a gymnasium full of mats? Sure. Practical? Not really.

That was pretty cool. But the one fighter didn't look like he was trying.

Good for discipline? Sure.
I'd also guess it has a lot to do with tradition.

Tae Kwon Do v/s Shaolin Kung Fu
Muay Thai can be very effective if you know how to use it...unfortunately the guy in the video looks like a n00b to me. All he did was practicaly stand there and asked to be hit. Me thinks Tae Kwon Do and Mauy Thai are in the same league. If that guy was well trained he would have given the TKD guy a tough time. Remember there is no superior martial arts..only superior martial artist.....p-)
Amazing how both of them blocked each other's kicks!

Tae Kwon Do v/s Shaolin Kung Fu
Both perform very well, however I think, the Kung Fu guy is faster and more agile [agiler?].

Because a Muy Thai fighter would move around and when attacking would not leave his vital areas expose like that.

not if the muay thai fighter was inexpierienced and arrogant at the same time. This vid was discussed at the Thai boxing association of the USA forum and it was considered legitimate there.

Any Martial Arts can be effective depending on the Martial Artist. The TKD looked more confident and was probably in TKD much longer than the Muay Thai guy was in Muay Thai.
i have seen muay thai fights, from one of my soldiers who practices it and has like 40 muay thai videos, we watch the videos on our down time and damn that **** is awesome, i have never seen a match end in a draw

That muay thai guy is drugged. If you look closely, you can see the irises in his eyes are totally dilated.

oohhhhhhhhhhkkaaaaaayyyy....
Your pupils become dialated from severe trauma to the head. Being kicked in the head like that will cause that.

the thing with watching videos like that is you really have to take them for what they are which is usually a bit of an exhibition.
having done tae kwon do in tournaments before, it is a good martial art for that type of fighting. unfortunately on it's own, it is somewhat impractical for "real" fighting, ie; you end up in a fight in a club with some guy who wants to try and kick your a$$ and you're going to wish you had the room to kick him in the head. The reality is though that it will be a fist fight, and chances are two of his mates are going to try and get in on it too. this was where i really found TKD to be lacking, in the 'real world' self defence part
as you can see though, good to watch

that wasnt an exhibition, it was a kickboxing tournament... I dont get why people here can't admit that taekwondo is at least slightly good.

It's just that if you look real close at the muay thai guy's pupils, you can see that they're dilated to sh*t.
Just sayin'
