That's the kind of thing that just scares the bejeezus out of me. I'll be interested to see what Hank thinks of this one.....

I read something not too long ago about a guy who was proven innocent after he had been in prison for around 25 years. It's like.... damn... that time can never be given back to him. oops.. sorry man... we took the best years of your life.... on the word of an eye witness who had no F-ing idea what he/she was talking about.

What do you think JiJo? Is this all you've seen on this story.... or do you know more background info?

No, I just came across it before I posted. Since the guilty party were BUD/S grads I figured it had some relevance here and I figure I'd toss it up.

it kills me to see somebody go down for a crime they didn't commit. i mean, yes he helped get rid of the body, and he should be punished for that, but serving a life sentence is just ridiculous when he couldn't do a thing about the actual murder.

Whoa! did you read the account of what happened? Dusty allowed his friend to choke, rape, and abandon that girl. Dusty, by the admissions in that account, is guilty of murder just the same as the other guy.

82 years is a long time, to be sure, but read the story and tell me if you still want Billy going free.

Billy wants to be able to claim that b/c his murdering buddy was also a SEAL and that Billy was used to taking orders that it was OK for Billy to willingly dump hte body and all. I ain't buying. Getting 12 people to agree on anything is hard, but mistakes do happen. Billy, by his admission in the story, was not mistakenly convicted of murder, Billy was an active participant in a murder.

I'm with you, Hank. I made the mistake of not reading the entire article. It does concern me that people are convicted for crimes they did not commit, but clearly this is not one of those cases. As far as I'm concerned, he's just as guilty as the guy who actually killed her.

Yeah, the success of the DNA retesting and of the screwups on death rows nationwide has prompted a lot of these websites. Inmates, and their relatives especially, see others have success and tug on heartstrings in an attempt to get a second shot.

One other thing I forgot to mention about "guilt". Depending on how that statue is written, the act of ending that girl's life is irrelevant to Dusty. Many states treat accessories and helpers the same - regardless of who actually choked the girl. I am making a small assupmtion here b/c I have not reviewed any trial material - but that appears to be the case here.

I know that you, farmgirl that is, realize that now, but that is really a mischaracterization on the site. He likely got convicted under a statute that says he was involved and therby gets the same punishment even thought Billy Ray choked her. Thus Billy Ray's confession is irrelevant to Dusty.

Sad story to be sure. My heart goes out to everybody - a real loss. 2 SEALS lose their lives in jail + a girl lost her life. Tragedy all around IMHO. Really a testament to the idea that drinking to excess, whilie fun in the right situation, can really have a lot of bad consequences for a lot of people. I'll give a shout out to the big man for all those involved tonight. ;)
