US Special Forces and PUK Fighters At Work in Northern Iraq
United States Special Forces soldiers and an agent for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA, at R) finish up a picnic with PUK leader Mum Jalal Talibani near the site of continuous bombing to oust the Ansar fundamentalist group near Halabja. The United States is leading a war on several fronts throughout Iraq and Northern Iraq, both in the name of the War on Terrorism and to overthrow Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein.

US Special Forces, alongside allied Peshmurga forces, battled Ansar al Islam in Northern Iraq, just short of the Iranian border on Shran Mountain, outside of Halabja. Those that survived US missile attacks and bombing retreated to cave complexes in the mountains.
