Actually they have a good reputation, they are far from the big cities. Most of the time, there is only farmers in these militias, they defend theire own family in very isolated areas. Sometimes they operate with the army in order to show to them the terrorists location.

Today, the terrorism period is over and there is only few militias left in particulars places where we still find few guys who don't want to surredender, and it's very difficult to localise them.
99% of the algerian teritory is safe now.

BTW is algerian-marocco border open now ??? I want to visit algeria and marocco in near future but I'v heard that border is closed...

P.S My father worked for algerian goverment recently and his work was in rural areas so he and his team were protected by algerian army,he said that they were relly good and very profesional :-) and he know what he is saying since he worked with many african goverments and very often had military protection, he said algerians were the best of them (marocco, algeria, libya, senegal, gambia, nigeria, camerun, ghana, togo)

Well the Algerian governement closed the ground border beacause a lot of weapon and drugs come from Morocco, but you can take the plane between Algeria and Morocco.

I don't think so...
Few weeks ago, a terrorist group tried to enter in Algeria, by coming from Mali. It was during the night in the midle of the desert.
We send to them few Mi 24 MkIII and destroyed all the terrorists cars and weapons.
We localise them with our beech 1900 with electronical system from Grumman. Terrorist were using theire selular phone so it was easy for the Beech 1900 to find them.
On top of that the algerian army was aware about their movement in malian territory due to Alsat 1 (the algerian sattelite of observation)

Is there problems here with muslims ?
Terrorisim has nothing to do with Islam, I mean the real one.

Algerian paratroopers:

http://membres.lycos.fr/algaf/266.jpg

In Algeria a lot of paratroopers are orphans, because the officers prefers them since they have nothing to lose and theire only family is the country.

I will add that actually, the strength of the algerian army is not its equipement but its intelligence service, the DRS.
The DRS infiltrate all the terrorist groups and create a small war between them in odrer to eliminate each others. After that the Army had just to finish the job by destroying the last groups....
The DRS infiltrtate the algerian terrorists and others "famous" organisation like Al-Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Today, the CIA and the DGSE (french services) work with the DRS to have more informations about islamic terrorists.

The algerian services and army become (Unfortunately !) one of the best specialist about islamic terrorisim.

Algeria get its independence in 62. The movie called "The Battle of Algiers" is a very good movie.
There is a lot of things to say about the algerian independance war, so if you are interested, I can create a topic about that....
Here I will just give you a "number" for this war: French died 40 000
Algerian died 1 500 000.

Kinda on a different line here, Algeria has some great musicians. I started listening to Rai, because im trying to learn arabic. Rai was completly new to me and even though I still dont speak enough arabic to understand most of the lyrics. I like the music.

Cheb Khaled and Cheb mami are two of my favorites.

Hmm, people seem to be posting on my two pet peeves, Algeria and Chechnya. While looking at the strengths and capabilities of various militaries, let us not overlook some serious problems with these same militaries. Let us not forget that both the two aggressors in these conflicts(Russia and the Algerian military dictatorship) stepped in to prevent Chechnya and Algeria from gaining independence and self-determination. Both are responsible for bloody massacres that are then blamed on "Islamic terrorists." While there are definitely terrorists operating in these two regions. It is to be noted that the vile acts of the above two aggressors has led to terrorist ideology going mainstream. More:

Kinda on a different line here, Algeria has some great musicians. I started listening to Rai, because im trying to learn arabic. Rai was completly new to me and even though I still dont speak enough arabic to understand most of the lyrics. I like the music.

Cheb Khaled and Cheb mami are two of my favorites.

Good choice!! :) :)

More:

You have no idea of what you are talking about. To my mind, I think you are living far far from Algeria. Learn a little about History, watch the news and after (maybe) I will be able to talk with you and explain few things you don't understand about Algeria (and the rest of the world ;) )

In my opinion, Kevin McDonalds best role yet!

Who is Kevin McDonalds ?

Against the Morocco army, the polisario developed a special tactic.
They use a lot of land-rover, put heavy gun on it and crew, and move only with it, as the result it was an army very mobil.
As the opposite, the morocco army with tanks, heavy artillery etc... was static.
So the Polisario attacked them quickly with an extreme violence, then the morocco artillery didn't have the time to adjust the shooting...After that the brief attack, the land-rover disapeared in the desert.
It becomes a real harassement for the moroccon troops, Polisario attacked sometimes during the night, sometimes in the middle of the day, there was no rules...
Against aircraft the Polisario use mobile SAM (provided by Algeria) and shot a lot of F-5 from Morocco.

Today this tactic is studied at Westpoint Academy and of course in Cherchell (Algeria) Academy.
