Well I own a pair of merrels but they are Chameleon II gortex xcr(desert sage) and I use them to airsoft and they are a great pair of footwear. But, just don't step on wet metal, for they have a lug sole and are freaking slippery..
But you asked about official military stuff so here it is, http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/Merrell-SAWTOOTH--P692C0.aspx

I've got a pair of Sawtooths. They aren't bad, but they can get a bit warm.

I love my Merrells but I only use them for walking and maybe looking a little taller.

I am only 5' 8".

The Sawtooth are nice and comfy...But like James said...Can be a bit warm on the tootsies. I recommend them though.

Does anybody know why Oakley's SF Elite boots are so freakin' expensive compared to other boots? Are they *that* good? I was eyeing pair of them here at local shop (for 160$ though).

Why are any Oakleys expensive....?

I have a pair, and I like them. They're good, not the best. Light like tennis shoes, comfortable, somewhat rugged, but slippery on wet surfaces. They're good for desert/hot/arid environments. A lot of people I know wear them.

Almost every SF and SEAL operator I saw in Iraq (2004-2005) wore either Merrells or Oakleys, with the majority wearing Merrell Chameleon Ventilators.

There were also a few wearing Sawtooths but the majority I saw wore Chameleons. Unfortunately this model is no longer made (replaced by the Chameleon Ventilator II) so you won't see any unless you happen to see a pair on eBay or the clearance aisle of your local store.
It's been almost a year so I don't know what the style is nowadays. I've been seeing photos lately though on MP.net of dudes sporting the Asolo 95 Gore-tex boot.

I'm currently using also some discontinued Merrell model I bought for peanuts at some fashionable hiking store. I think I even got *the giggle* from the resident hiking master salesman for buying old(!!) model, and on discount, for god sakes.

I use them for light hiking and lots of walking in urban areas in ****ty weather. I like'em for being light, warm, waterproof and easy to maintain. Vibram sole is a dream to walk on but - if you look at that picture of Chameleon Beppo sent, that grey line on the sole is some foam-ish material. It so soft that I ripped through it when I kicked my foot on some metal edged surface biaxident.

That's a big issue for me, cause such vunarebility is unacceptable for rugged shoe like that...
