The syrian ambassador has been called up to the Foreign Department.
The Foreign Minister sounded pretty pissed saying "totally unacceptable" four times in 30 seconds. To bad we don't have a carrier group, she'll have to settle with Södertälje. p-)

that's the last thing they're suppose to do.
Does anyone know what happened to the embassy workers? I've heard all the US embassies have "soccer fields" which really are meant for helicopter landings if something like this happened.

You dont need a carrier group to get even, it only takes a well aimed molotov-coctail and an arab Embassy.
If this continue to escalate I`m sure someone crazy enough will try do excactly that.

Well as earlier stated those sweedes are pretty crafty, when considering smaller countrys, the sweedes are probably one of the nations that could pull something of in that respect.
ON TOPIC:
Im just wondering, the two attacks that have happend dident result in any injuries on the embassy employes.
But if the attacs had happend on a bussy workday, im thinking we could have seen things get much worse.
Im glad I dont have to see the Norwegian ambasador strung up "Falluja style"
Im quite pissed of about the whole affair, but I fear we havent seen the end of this. Not even close...
But I have to repeat what I posted earlier this week:
"C`mon, a goddamn drawing!!??"
Cheers

I'd wager that the nordic countries have either pulled all their diplomatic personel or ordered them to sit tight in the living compounds (I know that at least in Saudiarabia, most westerners live together in special compounds with more security) for now. It does seem like this is going to get worse before it gets better...

According to The Vienna Convention (http://www.un.int/usa/host_dip.htm) article 22-2 the receiving state is obligatet to provide sufficient protection for the embassies. What's sufficient??...well that's a question of definition.
But in this case the receiving state has definately failed their obligation.
The Vienna Convention article 22-2:
The receiving State is under a special duty to take all appropriate steps to protect the premises of the mission against any intrusion or damage and to prevent any disturbance of the peace of the mission or impairment of its dignity.

Yes, they could have legally shot them.
You've got to put yourself in the security guard's shoes though. How smart would it be to shoot at a crowd of at least 100? They'd all be rushing at you after the first shot. Then other questions pop up such as what they are equipped with and how many security guards there were, etc.
But as you said, they could have legally shot them.

Thanks for the info mate. It'd be interesting to see what solution she comes up with. Btw, has the Danish/Norwegian FM said anything about this?
Well, I was obviously being sarcastic about he carrier group before. There will of course not be any such response. But I really can't recall the last time there was such a swift and firm response from the government.
It's also important to point out that the goverment is currently in "congressional hearings" regarding their weak and late response with the Tsunami disaster last year. This will affect their doings in this new situation.
However there will for sure be long-term effects of this and the military part of that is probably new tools for global power projection.

Something that will appear in the next Jihad DVD released all over Europe
But I really can't recall the last time there was such a swift and firm response from the government.
Then you have a bad memory. Kosovo - Serbia - Anna Lindh ring any bells? The reason why the Swedish government dears to lash out against Syria like this is of course because Syria isn't any major trading partner, and are already under massive attack from the international community about just everything. It's like kicking on someone that is already down.
This would not have happened with any of our major trading partners..
Kosovo, probably, or after 9/11..

The danish FM has complain to the syrian FM about the syrian polices failure to stop to the mob fron entering the embassy.
The FM has ordered the families of the embassy staff out of Syria and the embassy staff will be reduced to a minimum for the time being.

That the Iranian president has talked about stopping all trade with countries where newspapers has published these cartoons. Seems like people like him just don't get this with independent newspapers, and that the state and the population in those countries doesn't have anything to do with it.
