100,000 Muslims to vent anger in London at cartoon protest
By Nick Britten

A mass demonstration of 100,000 Muslims will take place in London next weekend as anger continues over publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The Muslim Action Committee, an umbrella group which claims to represent more than a million Muslims, said it would do as much as it could to prevent the ugly scenes seen last week when protesters carried placards issuing death threats and one man dressed as a suicide bomber (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=V42URHEB4MJSRQFIQMFSFF4AVCBQ0IV0?xml=/news/2006/02/08/nkhay08.xml).

But they said they needed to "channel" growing anger (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=V42URHEB4MJSRQFIQMFSFF4AVCBQ0IV0?xml=/news/2006/02/07/ncart07.xml) felt by communities across Britain that Muslims were being persecuted and made to feel like "second class citizens".

Faiz Saddiqi, the committee convener, said: "It is a peaceful protest. We will not let it be hijacked by the fringe elements.
"It is a way of showing the depth of anger that Muslim communities feel about being continually insulted by the publication of these images."

The march, on Feb 18, will go from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park. Mr Saddiqi said that only banners and placards issued by the committee would be allowed.

It will be the fifth demonstration in three weeks. Around 3,000 members from Britain's Shia Muslim community will congregate in London today for the Ashura Festival, while several thousand Muslims are expected in London on Saturday for a rally.

The Metropolitan Police will patrol the events as normal but said they "had plans" in place should trouble break out.

The Muslim Action Committee was convened specifically to co-ordinate a response to the growing crisis over the publication, initially in Denmark, of cartoons depicting Mohammed, which have led to worldwide protests.

Mr Saddiqi said they wanted to make clear that their fight was not a political one, but a religious one.

He said: "The whole thing is beginning to gain momentum and we felt we had to get together not only to appeal for calm but also to channel people's feelings."

Just close every business and every window along the path. Let them walk to an empty city that has turned its back on them and their beliefs.

Hopefully trouble wont break out, 100,000 is quite alot and they might actually proof the world wrong by condemning the previous demonstrations by doing this one peacefully.

let this be a lesson to you Blackrain:

telegraph says there will be a huge muslim protest in London with 100,000 Muslims participating....

you believe it as usual, and people post their islamaphobic posts so far everything is the same as it usually is. And then reality hits home the 100,000 mass protest turns out to be 4,000. I mean 4,000 is a big-ish number of demonstrators but absolutely **** all compared to 100,000 (two stadia's worth).

It's 22:30 here and the protest is already over hehe..
All I know is that there were thousands which the news kept repeating, the media didn't pay as much attention to this protest as the last one where threats were made by only a few hundred radicals though.

The protest was peacefully done all the way through with peacefull banners and no incitement of hate, those people are the real face of Islam.
They just need to show their face more from time to time :)

Simply because unlike the muslims from other places...the muslims in America are part of their country. They have a future and more importantly, want to be a part of the countries future.

Plus I don't think religion has such a strong impact here. Most of the people that i've met just aren't religious or don't take their religion too seriously. Sure some of them go to church/temple/mosque, but most of them go there to meet friends rather than worship.

I like it this way. :)

Blackrain, you said this exact same quote in another thread:

The gullible public believes the 'moderate' clerics when they public decry terrorism but privately endorse it in their mosques.

There are more that 100,000 Muslims in Britain who publicly state they endorse terrorist acts against Britain.

That is pretty scary.

Is it these same 100,000 that are going to meet then?

The ones stating that their would be 100,000 Muslim's protesting was not the Telegraph but the British Muslim Action Committee.

So, the one that is not credible is the Muslim Action Committee, the newspaper merely reported that threat.

How, is a newspaper reporting what the Muslim Action Committee stated in any way Islamophobic. Do even know what the phrase means? Are newspapers not allowed to even report facts now do to fear of terrorism?

I have no idea.

But, here is the poll for you to dismiss and ignore.

However, six per cent insist that the bombings were, on the contrary, fully justified.

Six per cent may seem a small proportion but in absolute numbers it amounts to about 100,000 individuals who, if not prepared to carry out terrorist acts, are ready to support those who do.
