Baghdad, IRAQ: An Iraqi Muslim Shiite worshipper crosses a bridge in central Baghdad on to top of his horse, attired in embroidered cloth, in front of a police commando car as he heads to take part in the Ashura religious ceremony, 08 February 2006. The Iraqi capital and other holy Shiite cities were under tight security on the eve of Ashura, the Shiite commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam al-Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed in the 7th century. As a quintessential Shiite occasion whose marking was banned under the previous regime, Ashura has been the target of Sunni extremists in recent years prompting stringent security measures across the war torn country. Washington, UNITED STATES: US President George W. Bush (R) speaks about the 'War on Terrorism' 09 February, 2006, next to a commemorative bust of himself as a National Guard First Lieutenantat the National Guard Memorial Building in Washington, DC. Bush said the US and partner countries had thwarted an Al-Qaeda plot to fly a hijacked airplane into the tallest building in Los Angeles in 2002. The White House had already described the plot in October 2005, targeting the Library Tower in Los Angeles, but Bush's speech provided more details because of recently declassified information. Bush said Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, sometimes called the mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks, planned to have terrorists hijack an airplane, use shoe bombs to breach the cockpit doors and fly the jet into the building. Bush said that instead of using Arab hijackers, as in the attacks on New York and Washington, the plot called for "young men from Southeast Asia whom he believed would not arouse as much suspicion." Qalat, AFGHANISTAN: Afghan security personnel stand guard near a burning fuel tanker in Qalat, 08 February 2006. Although the country's top religious body called for an end to the violence after protests against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed have resulted in the deaths of 11 people, some 400 stone-throwing protestors tried to storm the police headquarters in Qalat, burned down a primary school, witnesses and an army commander said. The mob also protested outside a US-led military coalition base where they torched two fuel tankers and two trucks. Four more people were killed in Afghanistan Wednesday in new protests against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, as the country's top religious body called for an end to the violence. Dadurch sparte man rund 161000 Euro gegenüber früheren Transporten.
