Captions read that they used the Land Cruiser to block the gate. It probably stopped people from entering the compound.
The protesters used stones, firearms, frag-grenades and RPGs.
The soldiers used teargas, rubberbullets and warning shots.
The attack lasted for 5 hours.
The Afghan flag flying over the camp was also struck by bullets.

time to rethink those PRT's imo, some of them are located in very dangerous/vulnerable locations (Dutch one in Pol-e-Khomry used to be a marketplace in the center of town or something like that!) I allways thought that was dangerous in case of an attack.

sure there aren't many attacks anymore up north but it ain't Bosnia just yet either

Those are some amazing pics.. how did the soldiers have the time and precense of mind to take them? These should clearly show that these soldiers indeed did a great job restraining their response and the fact that this was no demonstration but a fullblown attack on the base. The PRT strategy will probably be reevaluated now but there is no other way to have a precense on the country side without significant increases in troop numbers which again could undermine the troops mission and ability to succeed..
Again Job very well done on the soldiers part... hope they get the recognition they deserve..
