Whats the story behind this?

I think i remember Seeing a video about this or Something... Well I guess that soldier lying on the ground was KIA by an iraqi sniper .. ( im not saying he is im guessing because of the way his head is sagging towards the ground when the guy starts dragging him so body motion) And the 2nd troop comes to drag him off the street, and drags him alittle way , a 3rd soldier comes and starts to drag him to while the 2nd soldier goes back to get somthing , ? and he is (KIA) to .. and the 3rd soldier runs.. Well im not saying this story im teling is true its a guess

Whats the story behind this? The Marine on the ground was hit by a sniper. Another Marine ran out to pull him to safety, then a Corpsman (I think it was a Corpsman) came up and took over for him. As he was heading back, he was hit as well, forcing the Corpsman to take cover. The second one hit survived, but the first was fatally wounded.

You're right on the 1991 picture.

The stryker story:
They chased down an insurgent and were searching the alley for him then he opened up fire with an AK hitting Major Kurilla in the legs, One GI rushed in and fought with the insurgent, then he dragged him out and captured him.

And if you mean the wrecked Stryker, it was a VBIED attack on 1 of the vehicles. Totalled the vehicle but i thought that everyone survived.

Yep, but this is also a site about military, and military is not only machines and fancy camos, ultimately itīs very meaning is to bring death to the enemy...

Nevertheless, I do agree itīs difficult to draw a line between which is acceptable and which is not.

we should all be thankfull for these soldiers who endure this horific life by choice so others don't have to. RIP to the fallen

I'm sure you meant well, but I don't think there are many soldiers out there that go in the army with ''this is gonna be the worst part of my life, but I do it for my country'' ''I give my blood for my country'' ''I take this horific life upon me so others don't have to'' and all that kind of BS.

I agree, but many people (mostly not in the army) still believe that many soldiers go in the army to die for there country, most go in it to have a great time and adventure, some (unfortunatly) go in it to get some money and get out of it as soon as possible.

Too bad....I see nothing wrong with viewing reality.

Here, on private property it's managment's preference. When an elected government makes it illegal to show flag draped caskets, the inside of a VA cneter, ect., it's called censorship and it's designed to misslead.

When I was in high school, before the Vietnam war got hot, the ROTC commander promoted a military program at the induction center wherein recruits were shown several military produced films which conveyed
the grisly horrors of war. It was very similar to the 'red asphault' driving films showing lots of dead bodies at auto accidents that we were shown. When the Vietnam war got hot and recruitment went down, that program was discontinued. I believe, permanantly. Now both those genres of film are the provence of sites like '******'.

x2, wonder what happened after that... wouldn't surprise me if those skinheads kicked the **** out of her....

No she wasīnt. As most bullies, neo-nazis are very chicken people with low selfestime who wouldīnt dare to raise their voices if they didīnt have at least dozen of their friends backing them up. She showed some courage and they were probably astonned and scared **** by that.

The courage to stand up for one's beliefs is unfortunately a scarce thing in the world. An acquaintance of mine was beaten to death in the middle of the street in Stockholm not long ago just because he was telling some teenagers who was urinating on a door that it was wrong, with dozens of people standing around to afraid to interfere.

I once witnessed three men beating and kicking a man senseless outside a pub in the town I live. I stepped forward and try to call off the abuse but was maced and beaten myself, no one around us tried to help a bit. If the same would have happened today I would do the exactly same thing, I donīt regret it...

Tank commander first gulf, and he was the only one to survive from his vehicle. I still remember it from the Newsweek back then. Must have been a moving picture!

No she wasīnt. As most bullies, neo-nazis are very chicken people with low selfestime who wouldīnt dare to raise their voices if they didīnt have at least dozen of their friends backing them up. She showed some courage and they were probably astonned and scared **** by that.

http://www.hansrunesson.se/damen.jpg

(BTW, this pic was awarderd "picture of the year" in Sweden in 1985)

Somewhat bad explanation to what happened. Basically a mob of politically correct Swedes and militant immigrant youth (Växjö has in particular many immigrants from Chile amongst else) formed up, an overwhelming amount might I add. The neonazis had to run for their lives, they ran to the nearby train station and locked themselves in on the toilets, before the police could escort them away and saving them from the bloodthirsty PC-mob.

I don't think it's so much about "the world", Sweden has sunk low due to various reasons, and I am not for a second regretting that I moved. Besides the assholes that kicked him to death were disturbed sick individuals, given that it was your friend (sorry to hear about that by the way) I guess you know who did it as well. Sick people always exist, everywhere, in all societies. But they are just a minority.

I agree, but many people (mostly not in the army) still believe that many soldiers go in the army to die for there country, most go in it to have a great time and adventure, some (unfortunatly) go in it to get some money and get out of it as soon as possible.

Guys,

The real story, to cut it short was the 1st injured Marine survived whilst the the other one on the far left that went in to save him was KIA. We Marines never ever leave our brothers behind. RIP brother.

I'm sure you meant well, but I don't think there are many soldiers out there that go in the army with ''this is gonna be the worst part of my life, but I do it for my country'' ''I give my blood for my country'' ''I take this horific life upon me so others don't have to'' and all that kind of BS.

I served for everyone of those reasons and there comes a point in every soldiers frame of thinking when you realize this sh*ts for real and yes, you would die for your countrymen. Some people serve others just think about it comfortably.

In WWII in Germany the Großdeutschland division had a motto, "Gott, Ehre, Vaterland". God, Honor, Country. That holds true for nearly all soldiers.

no, its a prisoner from Andersonville Prison (Confederate Prison for Union POWS)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/03/Andersonville_birdseye_ransom.jpg

Nearly 50,000 prisoners in total; 13,000 died.
http://www.cr.nps.gov/seac/skelphot.jpg

With these unspeakably miserable conditons, almost 30 percent of the prisoners confined to Andersonville died at the camp during its 14-month existence. Diseases such as dysentery, gangrene, diarrhea, and scurvy took many. The Confederates lacked adequate facilities, personnel, and medical supplies to combat the diseases.

Now that is an excellent and touching painting. Especially to me since my own grandfather has his name on one of those memorial walls (not from the Vietnam war though). Often most "artists" (especially those who like to paint modern art crap) doesn't get a lot of emotions in their paintings. This is however filled with them. I feel sorry for this sad old man leaning against the wall, despite that he maybe doesn't even exist.

FOLIO, I gotta tell ya I'm not a fan of your avatar. This whole contreversy should'nt be about freedom of speech or the press but more about respect. One of my friends writes a column for the CBC here in Canada and he puts it into words better than I.

....I followed the flow of comments about freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom of expression and how western countries shouldn't be afraid of protesting or rioting Muslims; that it's our inherent right to print those cartoons. But I couldn't help noting that this slew of "freedoms" come from people who take for granted what our fathers and grandfathers paid for in blood, and what our own soldiers pay for today.

Freedoms are something many people here in Canada and around the world take for granted; the minute someone perceives that those freedoms are being infringed upon, a whole movement begins that can quickly snowball out of control.

I am a soldier that believes deeply in freedom, and by virtue of service for my country I have and am willing to put my life on the line for what my country believes in. With freedom of anything comes the responsibility to make sound decisions and common-sense choices.

Deciding to not print those controversial cartoons has nothing to do with being cowed by fear of Islamic retribution; it has everything to do with respecting another person's beliefs and the common sense that Canadians have always been known for around the world.

When we as soldiers move into another country, whether to keep or enforce the peace, we respect the fact that the host country is unique in its beliefs and culture. We try to leave the country (at some point) with minimal cultural impact.

We respect their holidays and events; we go so far as to try not to eat or drink in front of Muslims during Ramadan out of respect for their culture, even while in our own camp. This has nothing to do with fear of offending them, but has to do with respect and our ability to live in a multi-cultural environment -- whether overseas or here in Canada.......

MCpl.Russell Storing

Just my 2 cents. Cheers

Why should we respect people that said we ( Europe , USA ) are evil and we all should be killed ?
Same people that said they should destroy Israel and said the " Shoah " never happened ...

Come on ... if you don't realise that cartoon is only against those terrorists saying that they are acting in the name of god you misunderstood the whole story ...

I understand the story and I know that the cartoon is aimed at the terrorists but the problem is that the cartoon also insults all the non-terrorist muslims. For them we have spit in the face of their God and they are mighty pissed and it's troops (like me and thousands of others) who pay for that lack of respectful understanding of their religious beliefs. I believe in freedom, enough to offer my life for it, but it must be tempered or ballanced with respect.

Hey what's the story behind the pic?

In February 2002, a contingent of 850 Canadian soldiers was deployed to Kandahar for six months as part of Operation Apollo. Integrated into the U.S. Army task force, the 3rd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group took part in offensive operations against the Taliban regime which had been aiding and harbouring terrorist groups. The Battle Group was supported by a squadron of Coyote armoured reconnaissance vehicles and combat support elements.

4 of those PPCLI soldiers were accidentaly killed when a US pilot dropped a 500lb bomb on them as they were conducting training at night. The troops were stationed at Kandahar Airport with the US and took part in the Memorial Day parade.

Edit: Found it myself.

I don't have the picture, but I remember Toloza had the 1000 yard stare goin on.
