I never understood why the italians play rugby??? how did the game get there. I think it's probably one of the greatest games even though it's almost nonexisting here. I wonder why some countries adopt sports and some not at all.
After Football here comes Handball, Icehockey and Basketball.
For example Icehockey doesn't really exist in Britain. OK we're not that good, but at least we belong to the olympia group and have 6 or 7 nhl players.

Ice hockey exists in britain, we're just **** at it. Rugby is a winter sport so they should have it at the winter olympics.

In fact the england game today was played in Italy.

Ice hockey used to be Britains second sport before WW2. Britain won olympic gold (mostly with a team of Canadians). But after WW2 there wasn't the money around to pay for ice rinks and hockey gear.

We even have Ice hockey team, full of Greek-Americans and Greek-Canadians ;)

Plus, some here even thing of creating a Rugby team. WHo knows, Greece in the 7-Nation Cup LOL!

I just wish I could see these games here in Canada.
not even sure if there'll even be a league on base this year :(
I got invited to play on a well known team back home, kinda hard to play when I'm posted up here playing soldier ya know?
I'm counting down the days till the season starts up, I can't wait. my old unit's team I played on last year won the base championship, I hope to do it with this team this year, we've got alot of good players.

The Ireland vs France match was brilliant. In the secound half I thought we could have stolen it. The quality of play wasnt great but it was exciting.

Britain only has players in the NHL who are raised in Canada but born in the UK.
There are a bunch of people who don't make it in the NHL who move over to the UK and play in leagues there. I read specifically about this one in Northern Ireland full of players from leagues over here in Canada.

Just finished Scotland 18-12 England. Scotland have one back the Calcutta Cup. Well done Scotland!

England didn't play their best, but Scotland were great.

The 6 Nations is wide open now, I reckon it will go down to the last game between England and France.

Yup, i wont be holding my breath, we looked ****e in the first game against and got lucky and we looked ****e in the second game and didnt get lucky. Unless there has been some huge change in tactics and energy levels i doubt we will win tomorrow. but dont quote me on that when we win tomorro!

I played with the under 19s the other day and I am a wee lad got a few elbows in the skull...But it don't stop me from playing it.. It's a great sport, and somehow i like bashing into guys and them bashing into me...

Because rugby's medieval ancestor was popular in southwestern France. And keep in mind part of Aquitaine was ruled by The English king until the end of the Hundred Years War.

obviously not, but they do get a lot of injuries, what rugby does make you realise is how tough you can be and how unecessary American Football armour is.

Rugby boots, allthough most are wearing football boots, they have longer "studs" than the football boots, but they are thick and blunt, not at all like golf shoes or baseball cleets.
You are allowed to use your foot to get an offside player in the ruck out of your way by raking him with your studs, but your not allowed to stamp on him..i.e. move your foot down straight on him, your foot is meant to be moving from horrizontally back towards you as much as possible.

It's a very different game, that's why they need armour. People did used to die in American football before they introduced helmets etc. It's because it's so head on and, because of the amount of stoppages, the players are trained for short bursts of energy where a rugby player trains for a whole match.

Rugby is more about takedowns, where American football is about knockdowns.

I never wore them. But when I played rugby I used to keep a shaved head and I would duct tape my big ears back.

There's some kind of limit on how thick the head protectors can be. I can remember Josh Kronfield getting in trouble for wearing an 'illegally' thick protector. (Unlike now when he gets in trouble for what he snorts up his nose).

I wear a scrum cap, I gotta buy one, using one off of someone else is kinda..........gross lol
I swear I thought I had my neck broken in the scrum once; the damn team would go to the grow as low as they can, and then pop up as high as they could as soon as the ball got in, bloody hell did that hurt. I was actually screaming at them to stop.
worst I've ever seen was a guy when I knocked out the other teams captain in a match in high school. I honestly thought they guy was dead when he hit the ground. broken nose, concussion, and out for a little while on the field; he got lucky.
I knew a guy that played on the wallabee's, broke his back, yet he still plays american football; go figure.
what is it; the average rugby player is expected to have a serious injury (ie one where he had to stop playing) ever 2.5 seasons?
