He is commander and it is usual comanders "disease" higher rang=more fat. And he don't have to run around... his duty is to sit behind desk :-)

I guess itīs a cultural thing. These officers points with the hand and says to
the conscripts to run 50 times around the camp while they themselves go
and eat a donut or two. Our officers run first and generally never told us
to do anything they could not do themselves. Thatīs the way it should be.

Good officers in canada do the same, but hey, like you say it depends on where you are

Just remember that sometimes it depends on kind of duty. What are the duties of Slovakian army in Iraq? Logistics? Decontamination? And about diffrence between gen.Bieniek and Tyszkiewicz - first one is a paratrooper and field commander, other one specialised in Logistics and that kind of stuff - I dare to think that also in US, Russian, or any other army "pantycounters" (liczyportki) aren't the best fit units. Important is if they do their job right.
However personally that plump person in uniform is kind a shame to its army.

Yeah, same thing in bulgarian army. Higher officers are mostly fat guys...I blame it on the good Bulgarian home made cusine!
Only lower ranks officers (up to majors) and NCO are good trained Schwarzeneggers. From my point of view this must be changed. Also high rank officers have to do fitness

Our company commander was a badass, (a major). He had these "testing days"
for the company that were pure hell, all we did the whole day was to run as hell
all day with full gear. But he was there with us and was the one running in front.
He also acted as a "platoon commander" during a 130 km march they had at the
NCO school. Luckily(?) my platoon didnīt march, we were OPFOR, fun as hell
when we one night when they came lurking in the forest ambushed them. All of
them were so tired that they couldnīt react, so the major started shouting
orders and was full of energy as if he had walked 10 meters and not 100 kilometers.
Of course we all had a huge respect for the dude.

Slovakia =/= Slovenia - two diferent contries, Slovakia is part of former Czechoslovakia and Slovenia is part of former Yugoslavia. Also to add confusion there is Slavonja(Slavonya (sp?) ) in Croatia which is one of that country regions.
