OTTAWA (*******) - Canada's Defense Ministry on Sunday denied a television report that Canadian troops had seized control of the main airport in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince.

"They have not taken over the airport," ministry spokesman Capt. Dale MacEachern told *******.
French-language public broadcaster RDI reported earlier that Canadian troops had seized control of the airport as part of an operation to restore order after President Jean-Bertrand Aristide fled the country.
Canada -- which flew three military transport planes to Haiti on Saturday -- has around 20 soldiers in Haiti and says it could send another 100 to assist with an evacuation.
Asked whether the Canadian troops might take over the airport at some stage, MacEachern replied: "I won't speculate on what the future might bring."
Defense officials have declined to respond to media reports that Canada sent a unit of its elite Joint Task Force Two commandos to Haiti in the past week.
