exactly how do usaf planes help the security of the uk ?
Well I may be wrong but dont the USAF and RAF train together and thus improve the security of both nations.....
Also, as you are well aware, it is very good to have close and freindly military ties with the most powerful nation on earth in the long term security environment. As history teaches, the security environment can change from one of security to one of hostility to one of immenent threat very quickly.
It may seem as if no threats are on the horizon and Europe is stable but thats how it seemed before WW2 as well..............It is dangerous to only see the short term and abondon the close military ties between US and Britain because of simplistic nationalism.........not to say Im not a nationalist myself but I try not to say things like ¨whey do we need British,German, Spanish, French, etc airplanes coming to Ft. Bragg all the time when they dp stop in.........
As you know, the US holds massive international wargames and such on its own home turf. Americans dont really get directly affected by it because we have enough land to keep it partially hidden. England doesnt have that kind of land so I guess you are just going to have to deal with training accidents.
Training accidents happen all the time by all air forces. The only difference is that in American when a british,French, US, German jet misses target or has a accidentle release it lands in middle of Yuma desert or something but in Britain, due to population density its gotta land on someones farm heheh. .............
Not only do military ties with the US help British security in the long term but all those planes, pilots and support crews help the economy.
In my opinion your statement is a little stupid......sorry not trying to offend or start a flame war but the whole ¨we dont need no stinking US fighters¨ argument is a little short sighted dont you think................

there are F15E's based at RAF Lakenheath and Tankers at Fairford and Mildenhall the've been used in both the Gulf and Afganistan so I would say the USAF considers the bases to be prity imortant to them.
Have to say have seen them at low levle over Yorkshire and they are impressive. Pity the RAF chose Tornado.

It's quite clear to me what has happened - the guys were in transit to or from a legitimate bombing range - possibly Donna Nook on the east coast, and carried out a practice attack on Holme on spalding Moore - a former RAF airfield. Whilst carrying out a practise bombing run, the master arm switch had been taken off safe, a practice bomb selected and the pickle button pressed.......accident - maybe........lucky it was a smoke bomb eh?
