The Odessa Police Department is proud to announce that we will conduct a three-day TACTICAL TEAM LEADER COURSE in Odessa, TX, instructed by Paul Howe. Paul has over 20 years in the U. S. Military and over 10 years in the Army's elite 1st SFOD-D, and is considered by many to be the foremost authority on Hostage Rescue and Tactical Operations. Paul is in high demand, as a result of his years of training and missions with this elite counter terrorist unit. Paul, who is featured in the book "Black Hawk Down", has held virtually every position within 1st SFOD-D, to include Assault Team Member, Assault Team Leader, Sniper and Breacher. This is not a military tactics class. This class focuses on the Tactical Team Leader, who controls 4-8 persons, on an entry team. This course will expound on leadership principles, tactics and tips of the trade based on sound principles adapted for law enforcement use. Among the topics covered in this class include safety, team organization and breakdown, combat leadership, combat mindset and selection and training. Further, shooting standards are discussed along with assault planning, operations orders and the assault process. Students will participate in sample training scenarios and will also plan a potential target that they will be required to brief to the class. Finally, students will participate in a training exercise that will reinforce the information learned during the classroom sessions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Students should be able to run 5 miles in 50 minutes or less.*

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: All normal tactical equipment including rifle, pistol, vest, helmet, eye and ear protection to include a paintball mask and throat protector. This class will utilize live, ®Simunition and paintball weapons. All students with ®Simunition kits are strongly encouraged to bring them along with 200 rounds of ®Simunition ammo. 50 rifle and 50 pistol rounds are required. Shoulder weapons should be capable of hitting a 100 yard target.*

Tuition for this course is $325.00 per student. Due to the sensitive nature of this course, all students will be asked to provide agency I.D.'s on Day 1. This course is limited to 20 students, with minimum student requirements. Therefore, NO refunds or cancellations after February 24, 2003, however, qualified substitutions can be made. TCLEOSE Credit will be given for this class. Also, students from New Mexico can also be given laterally transferred credit through their state's training station.* Coordinations for door prizes are also underway,such as Sea World and Schlitterbaun Water Park tickets.* Students are encouraged to bring patches,and other material, they may feel they may want to share with their fellow tactical officers.*

Students are encouraged to bring "tough missions" they have faced in the past for information sharing during down time.
