Stop starting a flamewar!!!
Those things have been discussed many times.
If you have a problem with this thread, don't have a look on it.
Story told.

weird to want to look at photos of these degenerate thugs/murderers
I suppose it's like the popular american fascination with serial-killer memorabilia

There are warning in this thread. I would suggest reading them. If you continue on the path that you are going on, your stay on MP.NET will be short.

BTW, it is all explained in those warning.

you deny that they're serial killers & degenerate murderers - ? I don't object to people posting photos, as long as they're honest about what they're looking at, and preface them accordingly. These people are worst than ted bundy -
I have no problem with others taking a historical interest in them

Take your need to discuss somewhere else. This is a photo thread and intellectual Queffs like you show up to debate morality in war. This drivel below an image of a Waffen-SS soldier allowing a Russian soldier a drink from his canteen. What a pimple. Post a valid image or in your countries common vernacular, toss off.

Here is another from me. SS-Sturmbannführer Kurt Meyer and Division Commander of LSSAH Sepp Dietrich. After Greece sometime.

And Kurt Meyer as Brigadeführer of 12th SS-HJ.

I'm curious what backing they have behind this. The Browning Hi-Power was a widely used sidearm for the Germans during the war, especially the SS.

Even more interesting is the series of Black and white pics are stills taken from a German Propaganda Unit film, that re-enacted the German advance.
I believe the full story is featured in one of the "After the Battle, then and now." series of books.

Could you name some of the events re-enacted?

As I recall from reading the book about 15 years ago. . . The Nazi Propaganda company was filming the glorious advance through the American positions, investigation of the film and pictures, later determined the events shown were staged, (perhaps the give away was the lack of opposition from the Americans,) yes, the vehicles, and supplies were American, they were abandoned on the road, earlier in the day or from the day before, it was also determined from the film and pictures that the Germans were in fact moving in the opposite direction, i.e.. away from the American postions when filming.

If you take the time to read through this thread you will find such comments as "murdered by the *********." are totally out of order, comments such as these, tend to start a flame war and get the thread derailed, its strictly pictures and video, I.M.H.O.it would be better to delete the comment before the flaming begins.

You could exchange Germans for Americans in that text. They staged such bogus fights in Italy for the home front. I believe Robert Capa was involved in at least one incident.

I think it was a polite request. Black seems to be good enough for everyone else. There's a reason why boards don't allow it and why it's not used in publications.

You built up some dramatic story around those pics portraying it as a unique event when it was in fact a practice employed on all sides. Maybe you just didn't know that.

AND ?

With regards the pictures I did not "build up some dramatic story" but stated some facts, the pictures were from a propaganda shoot, so how could the Browning allegedly found in that area, be the one in the film clip and pictures belonging to that particular member of the ss?

Both sides did this all the time, my grandfather who lived in belgium in a little town near Brussels, was photographed as being a russian boy by German soldiers quarted in his house when they staged photos that would have been taken on the eastern front in the snow. They were published back then somewhere in one or the other magazine. I'll ask him next time I see him.

SS-Hauptscharführer Karl Körner (http://www.achtungpanzer.com/gen10.htm),
http://www.achtungpanzer.com/images/korner.jpg

In April of 1945, SS-Hauptscharführer Karl Körner (platoon commander from the 2nd Company) was supporting an infantry counterattack in the Bollersdorf area (east of Berlin), when he encountered two Soviet JS-II heavy tanks at a distance of 200m. He quickly destroyed the first one and second one trying to reverse in order to take a firing position drove into an anti-tank ditch and was abandomed by the crew. On the road from Bollersdorf to Strausberg, Körner observed additional 11 JS-II tanks and around 120 to 150 enemy tanks in the process of being refuelled and re-armed on the egde of the village. He then fired and destroyed all 11 JS-II tanks on the road and attacked the rest of the tanks and their suprised crews. Number of fuel and ammunition trucks exploded causing even more panic among the Russian tankers, while Körner fired all 39 rounds he had left and knocked out 39 enemy tanks before he withdrew. Following this action, sSSPzAbt 503 and other units were falling back to defend Berlin. On his way to Berlin, Karl Körner destroyed over 100 Soviet tanks and 26 anti-tank guns in total, achievement for which on April 29th, he was awarded the Knights Cross in the bunker of Reichs Chancellery. After the ceremony, Körner returned to his unit on the frontline at Charlottenburg district of Berlin. On May 2nd, last King Tiger (http://www.achtungpanzer.com/pz5.htm) from sSSPzAbt 503 was destroyed during an attempt to break out of the city on the Spandau Bridge.

Because there is someone in the movie, with a very little role, a young officier of the W-SS who has a lot of awards, and it makes me think to him. Does anyone here have the book Soldiers of the Waffen-SS: Many Nations, One Motto by Marc Rikmenspoel?

I'm looking for a photo of the Icelander Odd Tordarson. He died a few months after he was wounded at the battle of Narva.
I read on some website that there's a photo of him on page 413. Can anyone check to see if this is true?

I've considered buying the book but it costs $82 at Amazon.com. :-(

jochen peiper

interesting note, even though the 2nd picture is almost always captioned as being Peiper, it is not. whilst in the Ardennes Offensive in Dec 1944 he used a tank as his command vehicle, a Pather in fact with the regimental number 1 on the turret. when this broke down, he moved to a 251/3 IV.

yes it was staged. the other famous picture is of 2-3 germans running across the road. what most publishers do is crop the photo so that you dont see the German soldier who is ambling in the back ground!!

I find this picture in the net. The legend says division Charlemagne 1945. It is difficult to see exactly but I have a doubt: it is a picture of the division Charlemagne? This photo maybe was tacked the day when they arrived to Berlin in trucks. We can see 2 stills of uniforms; it is possible in this division because some of them come to the LVF and other to the Waffen SS. What do you think about this photo?

no, Bosnians were merely fighting for the safety of their people and an autonomous Bosnia.
the idea of a Jihad wasnt even alive in Europe in 1943.
its only a modern fabrication/connection to explain the roots of Islamofascism (which would be the Mufti not Handschar).
This connection is also an insult to tens of thousands of colonial Muslim troops that fought for the Allies during WW2.

I know that this isn't Waffen-SS. But i found this pic at home and i wonder about his collar patch. His rank is "Oberfeldwebel" but he hasn't the corresponding collar patch.
they look more like those ones for officer

It's an officer's coat with oberfeldwebel shoulder boards. Look at the collar and the pockets. He's probably just using it for dress purposes, not too odd.

It is very funny to see that all these "exotic" and colour skinned people belonged to waffen SS while at the same time, white and blue eyed ashkenazi jews were not aryan enough for the german reich.. It really proves how much these racial laws and jewish obsession from nazis was pure hypocrisy and total BS.

Indeed, racial laws would be as stupid if european jews where dark skinned people, but such photos show even more the absolute paradox of the nazi ideology.

...Yea. Thing is, these people all belong to the Wehrmacht, not the SS...

I saw an article against WWII myths: one of this myths is "Waffen SS, an elite troop?" In this article they speak about mutinies in the Waffen SS.

Mutiny in the 7th .SS Prinz Eugen because Croatians (Volksdeutschen) were not all volunteers, maltreated, humiliated, mocked exploited... by their German officers who considered them like no German. They mutinied to be transferred to the Croatian Army.
Mutiny with two battailons of Ukranians volunteers ( 14th SS or 24th SS) who rejoin the French resistance before to be integrated in F.F.L Foreign Legion.
Muntiny in the 13th SS Handschar for same reasons than Croatians.
Mutiny of some Dutch. I forget the rest about them (which unit, why they did that...)
and Mutiny in the 36th SS composed by Germans, some communists of them go to join Red Army.
If someone have other informations about mutinies in the Waffen SS?

The Americans wore indeed camo, but it has several times happened that they were mistaken for Japanese!
The German paratroopers wore camo part clothing.

Where the hell did you find that? Indeed the German paratroops wore camouflage smocks from 1941 (Crete) onwards, but your statement about the US being mistaken for japanese I don't believe until I see a source. The japanese did not even wear camouflage clothing during the war, just green... The US camouflaged HBT uniform was so widespread in the PTO that just about every US unit would know the pattern.

The Handschar pionier companie mutiny was instigated by communist spies Tito actually sent to infiltrate the unit while in training.. the mutiny was put down by Bosnian volunteers. Himmler personally decorated them.

The SS was trusted to spearhead attacks, not hold the flanks, hence its categorization as an elite shock troop force.
The W-SS also got some of the best equipment too.

MG 37(t) instead of MG34's etc. the Waffen-SS was low on new weapons priority before 1942 and had to scramble to arm the . Why they didnt have a Panzer Division before 42 because they had to prove they werent just Asphalt Soldiers.

What you're talking about has alot of truth to it. The W-SS did become the apple of Himmler's eye. Many fascist organizations have their own special force. The early SS-VT didnt out perform the Wehrmacht in Poland at all from what I hear. They had been indoctrinated to such an extent that they had the highest casualties, were the most reckless and most eager to impose certain political sentences onto the Polish civilian population.

Many have compared the USMC to the mid war W-SS and compared Fallujah to Kharkow. Both have gotten a good deal of publicity as their nation's fire brigades. But offcourse when you start talking about funding, the similarities end there. (the axis history forum has a very interesting debate on this same comparison)
