At least 44 people were killed when suspected Sunni Muslim radicals attacked rival Shi'ites with automatic rifles and grenades in Pakistan on Tuesday as the minority sect marked one of its holiest days.

Hospital sources said more than 150 people were wounded in the suicide attack in the southwestern city of Quetta, which coincided with bomb blasts that killed at least 143 people in Iraq's holy Shi'ite city of Kerbala and capital Baghdad.

Anyone else find this apparent coordination of attacks slightly worrying?? :(

That the gunmen were visibly Sunni muslim may bring us more cooperation from the Shiite muslims.

Remember that the Sunni muslims were a privileged minority when Saddam was in power and they were lording it over the Shiite muslim majority. You know the Shiites are going to have alot of anger and resentment for the Sunnis.

I think we may have an opportunity for hiring many shiites into the new Iraqi police force. Putting the Shiite muslims in authority over the Sunni muslims may put a quick end to this Sunni muslim insurgency.

I find it extremely disturbing that a country with nuclear weapons could fall into a Islamic civil war.

So much for Muslims blaming their problems on the west. They go around killing each other with just as much hatred !!!!

I agree with you. Although I live in the good old USA, my family is still back is Pakistan and I live in fear for their lives. I don't think this shooting was the work of al Qaida. Pakistan has suffered from sectarian violence for over 2 decades. I think this was the influence of either Indian agents or Afghani, most probably the first one.
