An armed gang has stolen up to £40m from a security depot in Kent.
The thieves posed as police to abduct the manager of the Securitas depot in Tonbridge and his family.

The manager was taken to the Vale Road security depot at around 1am, Kent Police said.

At least six men, some armed with handguns, then threatened and tied up around 15 members of staff.

The gang loaded a substantial amount of cash into a white lorry before driving off at about 2.15am.

Police were alerted about an hour later when the staff activated an alarm.

No one was hurt in the robbery.

The Bank of England said at least £25m had been stolen but sources said the true figure could be as high as £40m.

This would make it the biggest ever armed robbery in Britain.

Kent Police urged anyone with information to telephone their special incident room on 01622 652 361 or 652 366.

.... same tactics (taking manager's family hostage) were used in the last years NI raid which netted some £26.5m.... well with Mad Dog and some other ex-paramilitaries roaming Bolton and other places after that loyalist feud... who knows.. but it's probably home-bread 'talent' ...

There is plenty of home grown blagging talent in Kent and some of them are in the big league a few of Kenny Noye’s former cohorts are South East London / Kent men.

Don't the police track cash by the serial number?

Mad Dog hangs out with one of our local fraudsters who does the odd bit of counterfeiting. Its very unlikely that he will get political in Ayrshire its been neutral ground for some time now and the cops are about 2 steps behind him most of the time. For a while Noye was like Kaiser Soze he seemed to have a hand in almost everything heavy going on in the SE of England at one point. I have one relative who has known him from the late 70’s and reckons that he could have made money going straight as he is a real grafter and very focused, he built up a large legit transport company and dabbled extensively in property.

.. this is very true... it is true in case of many hardened "successful" career criminals .... actually Lucky Luchiano said it once himself - to steal $ 1mil you need to have so much knowledge/courage/skill - that you'd be able to make the same money in legit way, albeit in somewhat longer period of time... so it comes down to "buzz" i presume

Police have released a description and computer image of one of the armed robbers involved in the multi-million pound Securitas depot raid in Kent. The man posed as a police officer to trick depot manager Colin Dixon into getting into a car with him on Tuesday.
He wore a police-style cap and a high visibility jacket.
He is described as white, 6ft to 6ft 1in tall, with a scruffy, "wiry and wispy" ginger beard which could have been false.
The man's hair was thought to be a different colour from the beard.
He had dark eyebrows and freckles on his cheeks.
The computer image of the man was produced by police with the help of Mr Dixon.
The depot manager, 51, was kidnapped by robbers pretending to be police officers, at the same time as his wife and son were abducted from their home in Herne Bay.

The young boy should have been celebrating his ninth birthday on Friday, but instead police said the whole family had been left traumatised by their experience.
"We've tried to make it special for him," said Assistant Chief Constable Adrian Leppard.
"He's had presents today, we're trying to get some of our own presents to him.
"We're trying to give them all the support we can."
Building society
Three people are being questioned in connection with the robbery at police stations in Kent.
A 41-year-old woman was arrested at the Portman Building Society, in Bromley, south-east London, on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Kent Police said she tried to bank "an amount of cash that had wrapping indicating it had come from the Securitas depot at Tonbridge".
"Detectives are trying to determine whether this is connected to the investigation," a statement said.

ACC Leppard added: "This woman could be completely innocent - we really don't know at the moment - but it [her arrest] was an obvious course of action to take by the building society and the Metropolitan Police at the time."
A man, 29, and a woman, 31, were arrested in south London on Thursday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.
Forensic tests are taking place on three vehicles thought to have been involved.
Mr Dixon's Nissan Almera and a Volvo believed to have been used to kidnap him were found, as well as a red van, thought to be a former Parcelforce vehicle.
ACC Leppard said: "The recovery of these cars and the van is an important development for us.
"We now think that a dark saloon car used by the gang to transport the depot manager's wife and their young son may have linked up with the red van with Parcelforce markings in the Faversham area at some time on Tuesday evening, at which point the woman and boy were transferred to the van."
£2m reward
The dark Volvo saloon was found burning in Burberry Lane in the village of Leeds, near Maidstone, late on Thursday night.
"We can't confirm that this is definitely linked with the case but it is a good lead for us at the moment," said ACC Leppard.
The white Renault lorry used to transport the cash is still missing.
There is still no exact figure on the amount of money stolen but it could be up to £50m.
A £2m reward has been offered for information about the raid.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police incident room on 01622 652361 or 01622 652366.
