The T-62, the mainstay of Soviet tank forces during the '60s and '70s and still in large-scale service at the end of the Cold War (24% of tank stocks). First tank to be fitted with a smoothbore gun; the U-5TS (2A20 Rapira 1) 115mm. Over 20,000 produced in the Soviet Union from 1961 to 1975, many more being made in Czechoslovakia, China and North Korea. Saw action in Afghanistan and in the conflicts between Israel and her neighbours, and of course in the hands of the Iraqis. Crews didn't just have to worry about enemy tanks killing them, but the T-62 could have soon finished them off with it's carbon monoxide fumes and spent cartridge cases whi--... Sorry I'm just about to re-watch The Beast ;), anyway enjoy the pictures :D...

Yes..they called "tiran".

As far as i know the "Tiran" 4&5 were T-55\4

And the "Tiran" 6 were T-62.

Ah yes, I have this book about several countries armored vehicles and just happened to remember the "Tiran", but I couldn't remember the various numbers that designated it being a T-54/T-55 from a T-62.

Pretty sure it's an Afghani tank, most likely be from after the war with the USSR, or maybe even 2001/2002.

nice pics !

the polish t-62 in early 80s had no heating !

so the tankers had sometimes -25 Celsius inside the tanks!

So they uprgraded from the T-54/55 directly to the T-72??Yes, but don't forget that were also upraded T-54/55 version i.e. T-55AM Merida. They were withdraw completly in mid 90s. Now Polish Army has only T-72M, their modernized Polish version PT-91 Twardy and German Leopard 2A4.

Sorry my fault !

I meant the T-55 as my uncle was a tankdriver in Poland and he told me that they had no heating and the 12,7 mm MG was useless against any air-threat :) But there were enough other "threats" inside the tank which could at least wound the loader for example even without a enemy tank

So maybe the T-62 had heating already ?
