J.Sebastina Elcano at the left, Esmeralda at the right side. Both Juan Sebastian Elcano and Esmeralda were built in Cádiz shipyards, Spain, with 25 years of difference between each other. The elder brother, J.Sebastian Elcano, was built in the 20´ of XX century and the Esmeralda, first called Juan de Austria when still it wasn´t finished, was intended to substitute the J.S.Elcano but at last it was sold to Chile´s Armada. Both them are beautiful and very good sail ships, Esmeralda still keeps a world record for big sail ships race if I´m not wrong, but the old Juan Sebastian still rules! Btw, J.S.Elcano, the sailor, was born in the town of my mother, Getaria.
