A question about the Army Rangers.

Do you need to like snakes or at least be accostomed to them if you want to go through Ranger school?
Because I am petrified of them. Do you think I would have problems?

My dad still has this huge ass snake on the wall from his days at Benning. Maybe I'll find a bigger one someday. Hooah :D

Eastern Coral Snake = BAD
Timber Rattlesnake = BAD

Notes:
Avoid encounters with wildlife during training. There are poisonous snakes on Fort Benning, including coral snakes, rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, and copperheads. Do not kill these snakes unless you are in a life-threatening situation. If a poisonous snake bites someone seek medical attention immediately. If possible, identify the snake so the medical facility will know what type of antivenin to use.

I would've thought that they teach how to prepare a snake outside of the Rangers too, as part of basic training. Or is this still something that is precluded to the more elite units?

When I went through Ranger school, I never saw any snakes. But, they are out there. The Cadre will go through and check the AO before any class goes through swamp phase. You will be wet alot, and smell like sh*t, though. :lol:

in my mind, i think I can handle everything thrown at me. I will try my hardest to do it. But I am absolutely PETRIFIED of snakes. Even looking at pics of them gives me the chills :|

get some damn therapy before you go...i am pretty sure they will use a technique called "systematic desensitization" which is a standard phobia treatment. :P
