Pretty interesting tank, i have to admit i heard and read very little about it .
But T-55 100mm gun shure doesn't make many credits to it .

Well they considered that the Israel's APFSDS might compensate for its lower caliber. But is a interim solution, more like many solutions in Romanian Army. MOD opted for upgrades/modernisations. The price for the 85M1 modernisation(new turret, FCS, balistic computer, termal imaging, etc. ) is around 1.5 Mil USD.

Not really... the TR-580 was the variant of T-55. TR-85 had its hull complectly redesign for a larger more powerfull engine. Turret resembled in general shape the T55. The TR-85M1 redesigned the turret.
so in a way T-55 is its grandfather..
